The way to do it is to avoid Budget Planner (BP) when tracking
your budget.

BP seems to be able to track your budget, but it really doesn't do
a very good job. The better way to track is with budget reports.
They correctly account for the timing of non-monthly scheduled bills.

The way to handle this is by creating a scheduled bill for this
budget entry. (And also, of course, removing the manually entered
data from budget planner.) In that scheduled bill, make the payment
every 3 months, making sure to choose the correct next payment date.

The next thing to do is not to look at budget planner (BP) to track
your budget. It's not very good at doing that. A better way to
track your budget is to look at the budget reports (either annual
or monthly). These correctly account for non-monthly bills, etc.

For example, in the annual report, you'll see that $30 show up
only 4 months of the year. Same with the monthly budget report.
The $30 will only show up in a given month if you owe it.

Try what I suggested and let me know if I misunderstood the problem
or if I did a bad job explaining.

Hi Frank,

This too frustrates me. The budget seems to force everything into monthly
paments / earnings. I haven't found any good ways, in Money, to do what
you're asking. You can look at the year-to-day view, but the problem with
that is, it will show whatever you've paid thus far out of the total 120
for the year. (If it was smart enough to know that it's April, and that
the ytd is only 40 that would at least be close to what you're looking for).

I'm only using 2004, but from what I've read here, 2005 works the same way.

Default Budgeting question

Hello,

I am confused on a budgeting issue.
Say I have to pay 30 dollars every three months.

Money breaks it down to say 10 dollars each month.

When I pay the bill of 30 dollars on the 3rd month, Money says I am 20
dollars over

I would like to have an envelope that would sum the values and on the third
month would have 30 dollars in it.
Then when I paid the bill, the enevlope would show a zero balance. I don't
think Money can do this.

Can someone explain this?

Thanks
Frank
