Yes, that would probably be the next thing to try.

It may be a corrupted user profile.
If you create a new User, can that user access the file without error?

As Carl mentions below, and since this does work fine for some users on this
computer, this is likely a permissions issue for the users that get this
error.

In addition to providing permission/access to the actual data file, you'll
probably also want to ensure that all users have access to Money's folder
under "All Users" (e.g. c:\documents and settings\all users\application
data\microsoft\money)

One thing I would try is to install (without uninstalling) Money as
one or more of those problem users. See if that helps.

Here is what else I would try in a command in a command window.
Determine what user you want to give access. whoami will tell you
if you don't know. Lets pretend that user name is George.

Let's also assume that the file in question is named My Money.mny

First do the following line, and note the result for later
comparison... I would cut and paste the result to store it:

cacls "My Money.mny"

That will tell the current permission status.

Then do this line to add full permissions for George:

cacls "My Money.mny" /E /G George:F

The E says add this permission to the existing permission. The G
says we are going to Grant to George Full permissions.

Then again do

cacls "My Money.mny"

and see the difference.

I think this should be basic stuff, and I should understand it all
better. It does not seem to work as simply as I think it should.

Not based on the knowledge I have. I am thinking that this is an
installation based error, rather than a money file one - especially as you
see it in a new file. I suppose setting a system restore point before you do
this may help, but I think you may need to try the reinstall.

If you have access to another machine which doesn't have Money on it, you
could try the process without the need to uninstall first, and see whether
the file behaves correctly.

Hi Glyn and thanks for responding.

I logged in as a different user, created a new test file,no passport etc,
did not set up any accounts. Closed money. Opened money and it opened my
test file but then the infamous error popped up, I said OK and my file was
there??

I have to wonder if there is something less extreme I could try in the
registry for just this user B4 completely cleaning Money. Your thoughts
please...Bob

I don't think anyone got anywhere with this before. The only further
information I have at the moment on this is that there's a conflict in the
program files between the older version and the newer one. If it's possible,
remove Money 2005, and then remove the files and settings from earlier
versions of Money

See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/265111/ with information on how to
remove Money (it includes removing registry and program settings).

After removing, reinstall Money (you might need to update Money to the 1105
build by opening the sample or a new file, letting it update & restarting
Money) and then open your file.

Whether this fixes it, I don't know, but I'd appreciate if you could let me
know if it does.

I have posted this problem back in November and since have seen similar
discussions with no specific solutions.

Since installing Money 2005 on my XP home SP2 machine with 6 users. I have a
file the 6 people should be able to open. The file can be opened by 2
limited and 1 administrator account.

1-limited, 1-guest and one Administrator get this message in a Money popup
box.

"The place you are trying to reach only functions in the Business version of
Money, and can't be used in the version you are using now. If you want to
use this place you will have to upgrade to Microsoft Money Small Business."

You then press OK, the file does not open for those 3 users.

I have tried the problem users being administrator, power user, limited.

I have tried sharing in different folders and configurations.

Any ideas what is going on or what else I can try??? PLEASE, Bob

Default Error: The place you are trying to reach

I have posted this problem back in November and since have seen similar discussions with no specific solutions.

Since installing Money 2005 on my XP home SP2 machine with 6 users. I have a file the 6 people should be able to open. The file can be opened by 2 limited and 1 administrator account.

1-limited, 1-guest and one Administrator get this message in a Money popup box.

"The place you are trying to reach only functions in the Business version of Money, and can't be used in the version you are using now. If you want to use this place you will have to upgrade to Microsoft Money Small Business."

You then press OK, the file does not open for those 3 users.

I have tried the problem users being administrator, power user, limited.

I have tried sharing in different folders and configurations.

Any ideas what is going on or what else I can try??? PLEASE, Bob
