| As Carl mentions below, and since this does work fine for some users on this computer, this is likely a permissions issue for the users that get this error. In addition to providing permission/access to the actual data file, you'll probably also want to ensure that all users have access to Money's folder under "All Users" (e.g. c:\documents and settings\all users\application data\microsoft\money) -Mark "Cal Learner-- MVP" <via_newsgroup[at]please.tnx> wrote in message news:ddha51t3p0iifmqnk2aeqtm4v4seegmlv8[at]4ax.com... - quote - > In microsoft.public.money, Mix Meister Bob wrote: > > I have to wonder if there is something less extreme I could try in the > > registry for just this user B4 completely cleaning Money. One thing I would try is to install (without uninstalling) Money as> registry for just this user B4 completely cleaning Money. Your thoughts > please...Bob one or more of those problem users. See if that helps. Here is what else I would try in a command in a command window. Determine what user you want to give access. whoami will tell you if you don't know. Lets pretend that user name is George. Let's also assume that the file in question is named My Money.mny First do the following line, and note the result for later comparison... I would cut and paste the result to store it: cacls "My Money.mny" That will tell the current permission status. Then do this line to add full permissions for George: cacls "My Money.mny" /E /G George:F The E says add this permission to the existing permission. The G says we are going to Grant to George Full permissions. Then again do cacls "My Money.mny" and see the difference. I think this should be basic stuff, and I should understand it all better. It does not seem to work as simply as I think it should. |

| Not based on the knowledge I have. I am thinking that this is an installation based error, rather than a money file one - especially as you see it in a new file. I suppose setting a system restore point before you do this may help, but I think you may need to try the reinstall. If you have access to another machine which doesn't have Money on it, you could try the process without the need to uninstall first, and see whether the file behaves correctly. -- Glyn Simpson, Microsoft MVP - Money http://money.mvps.org Check http://money.mvps.org/faq for tips and fixes for MS Money. Opened money and it opened my test file but then the infamous error popped up, I said OK and my file was there?? | I don't think anyone got anywhere with this before. The only further information I have at the moment on this is that there's a conflict in the program files between the older version and the newer one. If it's possible, remove Money 2005, and then remove the files and settings from earlier versions of Money See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/265111/ with information on how to remove Money (it includes removing registry and program settings). After removing, reinstall Money (you might need to update Money to the 1105 build by opening the sample or a new file, letting it update & restarting Money) and then open your file. Whether this fixes it, I don't know, but I'd appreciate if you could let me know if it does. -- Glyn Simpson, Microsoft MVP - Money http://money.mvps.org Check http://money.mvps.org/faq for tips and fixes for MS Money.
