Default Re: 2 computers

Money of any version knows how to USE files of the format for THAT version.
(Note in this context there are two versions of M05, "after 1105 update" and
"RTM" or "release to manufacturing".)

Money of any version knows how to UPGRADE files in the format of all
previous versions to its version so it can then USE them.

E.g.,

M05 after the 1105 update USES M05 after the 1105 update files.
M05 after the 1105 update UPGRADES M05 RTM, M04, M03, M02, M01, M2K, M99,
M98, M97, M95, Mv3, Mv2, Mv1 files to M05 after the 1105 update files and
then it can USE them.

M05 RTM USES M05 RTM files.
M05 RTM UPGRADES M04, M03, M02, M01, M2K, M99, M98, M97, M95, Mv3, Mv2, Mv1
files to M05 RTM files and then it can USE them, hopefully.

M04 USES M04 files.
M04 UPGRADES M03, M02, M01, M2K, M99, M98, M97, M95, Mv3, Mv2, Mv1 files to
M04 files and then it can USE them.

M03 USES M03 files.
M03 UPGRADES M02, M01, M2K, M99, M98, M97, M95, Mv3, Mv2, Mv1 files to M03
files and then it can USE them.

M02 USES M02 files.
M02 UPGRADES M01, M2K, M99, M98, M97, M95, Mv3, Mv2, Mv1 files to M02 files
and then it can USE them.

M01 USES M01 files.
M01 UPGRADES M2K, M99, M98, M97, M95, Mv3, Mv2, Mv1 files to M01 files and
then it can USE them.

and so on.

You can convert prior years data files into a later version, but you can't convert later versions into earlier versions. Once you convert - you can only remain the same or go forward.

version, correct? So do i keep both M04 and MO3 in different directories?

See http://umpmfaq.info/faqdb.php?q=109 then make sure you know where your
file is and have backup(s). In general, uninstalling Money leaves data files
untouched. But never take chances.

If i remove '03 will that delete all my data? Should i also make doubly sure
that this is the reason for the problem (that the version in FL is version
4)?As i may have said before, i did bring back the .mbf file and the .mny
file from FL on a USB disk.

As Tagman notes, if you obtain/install M04 (the application) for the machine
presently running M03 (the application), the M04 data file can then just be
moved back and forth and opened seamlessly by either machine.

Buy '04 and load it on the '03 machine (after removing '03)

That way each machine had the same program, and you can "easier" transfer the data files between the two machines when required.

So what is the solution, should i load the Money04 here with the 03 and then
transfer each check, etc. individually into 04??

Money files are hopelessly version-specific and are not backwards
compatible. You need to have both machines at the same version if you want
to go back and forth.

Default 2 computers

I have Money2003 here which came with the computer. i have another computer
in florida that i bought in 2004 with Money. i just returned from FL and
tried to load my backup (mbf) which would not work. It gives me a message
that Money03 will make a copy of your original file so data is safe with the
extension .Mxx But when i try to open the backup file, it claims the file is
either read-only or i do not have authority or the disk is full. What gives?
