Which version of Money are you using?
If it is Money 2005, are you manually downloading OFX files from the
website or using the online banking option?

I use the manually log into the website and download the file. This had
always worked for me. If you are using the automatic connection and
download, it depends upon which Bank of America you are connected to
whether it is an automatic connection to the BoA site or whether it is
going through the YODLEE site to get the information. The YODLEE does
exactly what you have mentioned below.

I would turn off the automatic update ("update now") and in the future
go to the BoA website and manually download the information. I have
found it to always be correct.

I agree with this. I download transactions and I don't find
it invaluable. I don't put as much detail into my transactions
as Dick Watson does. And I can't get that level of detail from
downloaded transactions. But that doesn't mean that downloaded
transactions are not valuable at all.

It's true that, to some extent, I trust my FI when I do this.
If the *ONLY* purpose of personal finance software is to act as a
check and balance against FI mistakes, then of course, downloading
transactions can't accomplish that. But that's not the only purpose
of PF software.

In most cases the transactions get downloaded while the transactions
are fresh in my mind. That is much better for me than reviewing a
statement of transactions that are 0.5 to 1.5 months old.

It would be impractical to enter dividends manually as they occur.

Downloading without first entering transactions is not a waste of
*my* time.

If you DON"T enter the transactions manually, you need to ask yourself
what purpose you have for letting Money enter the transactions
automatically. What are you trying to do? Your bank's online statement
has the same data. Money is intended as a personal finance program. It
serves the banking or credit card purpose best by using it as a
COMPARISON between what YOU enter manually and what the bank statement
says. To accept whatever the bank says without any comparison is a
waste of time IMHO. Steve

I'm not sure exactly what you're referring to with online banking, but
here's what I do weekly with BOA. I like to enter every transaction but
unfortunately since it's my wife's account I don't get the receipts to
enter manually. So I login to BOA, go to the account, and then do a
Download with the range of dates and selecting Money. They get imported
and then I find out which transactions my wife didn't give me receipts
for. :-) When I get the monthly statement, everything has been marked
so it's usually a quick zero balance.

I have problems with BOA updating in Money also. I find it better to enter
transactions myself and reconcile with online banking.

Default Online Banking

I tried to use online banking with BOA these past couple of months, but it
just did not work well. There are transactions just did not show up in my
Money and I had to enter them myself.

Is there any suggestion that I could balance my account monthly in a more
efficient way?

Or should I just foreget the online banking feature and start manually enter
the transactions?

Thanks !
