I agree with your points about activation etc...Although TT has removed this
from current versions.

But, Turbo Tax also has the option to print your tax returns in adobe
acrobat format. This has been a part of the product for at least the last
two years (not sure about prior to that).

Isn't it better to just print out a copy of your tax returns and
rely on that instead?

Personally I do my taxes on H&R Blocks site. I used Turbo Tax
for many years, I swore off Turbo Tax in the wake of the
whole Turbo Tax fiasco.

In short TT intalled a small program that shut off access
to your CD rom drive, even when you uninstalled TT that
small program remained. And people reported that they
had 30 instances of this program running taking up
vital system resources.

As a result of complaints and lost sales Intuit
canned this software in future versions, some like
me have never returned to Turbo Tax.

The other thing i like about the H&R Block product? It produces
a Adobe Acrobat file, a file that should be readable in future years.

One of the other concerns about TT was activation. Say you
get an IRS eight years from now. If you need to install an
eight year old version of turbo tax (assuming you can intall
an eight year old version on the hardware at that time) what hoops
whould you need to jump through to get activation from
Intuit? Where you're facing a tax audit would Intuit
gouge you for some outrageous fee to get activation? ($50,000
or so?) So many users like me left Intuit never to return.
