| My file is fixed now, thanks the Cal's help. Thanks Cal! I think what this problem is, is that the file is corrupted and the file repair doesn't detect it. What I basically did to fix it was Export all the transactions from the account, deleted the account (in my case it was 3 accounts for the same bank), and then re-import the data using the New or Recovered Account. (If you import it as "Statement from my bank), you will have a whole bunch of transactions to accept). In my case, it worked best to manually add the 3 accounts first, as they interacted in transactions with each other, but it will give you the chance to add it during the import process too. Some things I noticed that I had to work around (not a big deal though): 1. You may have some transactions with other accounts that have since been deleted or closed. Recreate them or add a new account, and then close it after the import is done. I first tried just deleting the account, of course that pulls a transaction (s) out. 2. Make liberal backup copies as Cal suggested. I was able to experiment, check things, re-try things because I could keep going back to the last known good backup in the process. I re-did the important about 5 times just looking at things and convincing myself it was ok. 3.Check your balances carefully. I found that there were some duplicate entries, saying "Transfer from deleted account". I just deleted those. They were easy to spot, duplicate date, account, amount. Likely tied to old accounts per #1. 4. If you use this account for Online payments (one was my checking account), you will find all your online payees are there, but you have to go in to each one and re-add where the money is coming from and what type of transaction (it will have defaulted to "Write Check", I changed back to ePay). It's also possible the account to update with the transaction may also be gone and have to be re-entered. The process didn't take very long, but 90% of the time was checking balances with my online banks/brokerages, checking transactions, etc. Hope this helps, my system is back healthy again! | I just encountered a very similar problem, with a Wells Fargo checking account. I've been running Money 2004 and downloading for just about a year, with no problems. This week I started having the same type of problems you had - transactions that it said needed to be checked but were not visible - only in the Wells Fargo account - other cc account downloads were OK. Also frequent crashes after a download. Two days ago I went back to a backup from a week earlier, did a repair. The repair log did show 1 issue to do with online transactions that it said it fixed. However, nothing in the log to do with the Wells Fargo account. Unlike your problem, I was sucessfully able to download everything and bring it up to date. Everything looked good. However, today Wells Fargo had a few new transactions, and the problem reappeared! Crashed every time after a download, and had the same issue with unread transactions that I couldn't see. I put Money 2004 on another computer, using the version of my Money file that had been brought up to date before today's download, and the problem showed up there too. So, its not something in my Money software or IE cache. I went back to the now ten day old version, and successfully brought everything up to date again. File repair says the file is fine. However, I'm worried that when I get some more Wells Fargo transactions in a few days, this problem will re-occur. I just read the news group and see that you had the same problem at this exact same time - now wondering if its something on the Microsoft side?? Anyone else seeing something like this? Yes. File-> Export that one account. Print that register (perhaps to a file) so that you can refer to that later if necessary. Ctrl+T will let more lines show if you are in single-line mode in that register. Disable online access for that account. Delete the account. Then File-> Import the checking account QIF as a new or recovered account. Fix things up. In particular, transfers may need extra attention. When you re-enable for online access again and import, you may get duplicates once. Sorting the register by order of entry may help in finding the newer vs existing transactions. | Further progress... Through a series of disable the online services, re-enabling it, and then just picking 1 of my three accounts at a time (of checking, savings, credit card), I have narrowed it down to the download of my checking account info. The other two are downloaded and current again. Is there a way to export just the checking account info, then I can delete all the transactions, and then re-import? Or can I do something like create a new account for my Wachovia checking, under some other name, download all the transactions there, move the 3 into my old (current) account, then when it downloads it might see they are there? Any ideas how to get past this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! | PS - to be more specific to what I said below, if I just download from Wachovia, it completes fine with the dialog box that says "Call competed" that gives me the option to view summary messages. I can see in the Account list behind the dialog box, that it has the 13 transactions to review. As soon as I click ok, even if it's 5 minutes later, that's when it crashes with the unencountered problem. | I went back to my backup from a couple of days ago, turned off all the downloads, did a repair, and cleared out everything in IE cache. I then turned on downloads 1 at a time, and I determined it's from Wachovia account. I wasn't clear on the symptoms, it finishes the download, gives the usual message to click to see results, but before I can do anything it crashes with the Windows message "...encountered a problem and has to close (send error report/don't send). I called them, they said nothing has changed on their end. It downloads 3 checking, 2 savings, and 8 credit card transactions, but I can't see them in my register and the balance is hence old. If I try re-downloading, it finishes fine but it finds no transactions and my balance is wrong. Repairing again finds nothing wrong. What should I do? thanks! | I have been using Money 2004 with online services for over a year now, and this morning it started crashing when it would do its latest download. I have daily backups, so I went back a couple of days and restored a presumably known good backup, and same thing happens when it does its account download. I reboot the system to be sure everything was clean. Now it is able to download fine if I process updates again, here is the problem - from the crashed event, I have about 12 transactions that it says I have to check, but they do not show up for example in my checking account register and credit card account! I do a standard repair, and it does not find anything. The settings on whether or not to download seem to be tied to the file, as I go in and turn off all download, then come back in and restore the old backup, and it fires off a download and crashes right away. I need to be able to figure out how to get the download from crashing Money 2004, or how to recover the transactions that it thinks it has downloaded (and I know are real) but that do not show up in account registers. I thought maybe I could delete those download accounts' online functionality and re-add it, and it will let me re-download all the transactions. Is that right? I thought doing that may not let me re-establish download capability without calling my bank or something. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. I am sitting still and not messing anything up until I hear something, so thanks! Don |
