| Dick, I don't think I can thank you enough - I owe you a coffee to be sure. For your information it seems that both the DRP and new Account/Setup/Loan use the same Wizard. The problem was with the dense grey matter between my ears. I was not pursuing the Special/Transfer option to its fullest and needed fresh view from a person with a clear understanding of what I was trying to do. I have no problem admitting, "I was stuck on stupid!". As for other software and the time thing. I really don't blame the company for wanting to protect themselves from people who may be trying to steal their software or possibly reliability reasons. I am legit with them, it only took a few keystrokes and an 'E.T. call home' to fix the issue. Again, Dick many thanks for your help and time, Eric. | I'm not sure just where the restriction on post-creating loan accounts came along. At any rate, you can create the loan account by the method you've discovered--setting the clock back. It's sad this freaks out a registration scheme for another piece of software. Maybe you could turn this software just plain off before you set the clock back and then turn it back on after you set the clock forward. BTW, let's make sure we are clear. Steps I propose: - Get the loan account setup as though you never made a payment. (This is the step that may require playing around with the computer clock.) - Go to the account register(s) where you've already expensed the previous "payments" you were just expensing. - One-by-one, edit these transactions to delete the expense (Bills:Car Payment or whatever you used) and replace it with special category Loan Payment:[name of acct created in first step]. Assuming you set the loan up correctly, the payment amount should be the same as the transactions you've already entered and Money should just change the transaction categorization but not its amount and, thus, not effect the account balance. You may have to tell Money you really do want to change a reconciled transaction, depending on setting in Tools|Options. | Thanks Dick, I will try the Loan setup method you have suggested - for sure DRP will not allow me to make any modifications to past transactions before the day they were created. Well now, the extra C/L's - I am going to blame cut/paste as my original message was composes in Word. Or perhaps because this is the first time I have ever posted via a NNTP thingy and simply messed up. Eric. | What's with all of the extra carriage returns? Nothing will know how to change the existing transactions automagically. Once the loan account is created (and I don't know about doing it from DRP, but Accounts|Setup|Loan works OK) you should be able to go and replace all existing categorization on the payments with the special category Loan Payment:[name of loan account]. | I originally had set up a zero interest car loan payment by just creating a category and sub-category. Now I would like to replace all the past information with a proper car loan created with the debt planner. I can easily create the car loan to start last year, even the calculation was the same as the car company. But there does not seem to be a way to move the past category entries into the loan. Yes, I did try moving the computer date back; created a loan and then reset the clock. Nothing in my Money 2002 data changed. Though my virus program had a snit and forced me to do a re-registration. Am I asking M02 to do the impossible or have I missed something and am about to embarrass myself? Oh the reason for wanting the loan to show - I would like to take advantage of the charts Money can create. Thanks all, Eric. |
