| Money MVPs, any word on a solution to this problem? This presents a serious issue, as it appears that Money is incorrectly tagging transactions as unassigned. Furthermore, per the noted KB article, the suggested fix is not applicable. Please advise. rich |

I read your description the first time figuring you found a bug andwas describing that. I did not try to replicate it. Thinking now that you are looking for something else, I looked thru it again to see if I might replicate the problem. I find no such business checking account in my sample.mny. Setting the search to search across all accounts, I find five transactions without categories in Woodgrove Bank Checking and one in Charlie's 401(k)(Contributions). They do not show categories. I suspect you are running Money 2005 Small Business. |

| Hello all, I'm having some issues with resolving unassigned transactions in Money 2005. After much research, I'm now convinced that my Money 2005 file is in good order (I dumped it and individual transactions are fine). To baseline the problem and further reduce it, I used the Money sample file shipped on the CD (sample.mny) to reproduce the problems that I was having. I was very easily able to repro the problem. Basically, something very significant has been overlooked with respect to transaction assignments... either that or I do not fully understand Money's definition of an "unassigned transaction." See Microsoft KB83969 for details. In this article, a procedure is provided which permits a user to reassign a category in an "unassigned" transaction. This procedure does not work: while category reassignment is possible, the newly-assigned transaction is still classed as "unassigned." Since it's a pretty gross error, there must be something more here of which I am unaware. Please advise. rich ========================================== Unassigned Transactions in Money 2005 Procedure to repro: 1. Start Money 2005 2. Open sample.mny 3. From the Tools menu, choose Find and Replace 4. Select the Advanced Search option button 5. Select Next6. On the Account tab, choose Clear All and then select the "Business Checking" checkbox in the Account listbox 7. On the Date tab, verify that Range is set to "All Dates" 8. On the Category tab, choose Clear All 9. Uncheck all checkboxes, except for the last two: "Include unassigned income transations" and "Include unassigned expense transactions" 10. Select Next> to exec the find query Does: 42 transactions found, classed as either having unassigned expense or income. Should: Only transactions without category assignments should be unassigned: note that all of these found transactions have categories assigned to them. Further, reassigning a category to the unassigned transaction does not alter the unassigned status of the transaction. |
