| It was the customer service (lack therof) that broke my back. I probably started using Quicken shortly after it came out. Went through various upgrades over the years. Quicken 2003 was my downfall. Converted from 2000. Constant mess. They tried to help but the only answer seemed to be "too much data". I am doing a side by side as well. I had some problems converting because some old, unused accounts were "hidden". Once I fixed that the conversion went smooth. So far I have seen a number of thing in Money that I like better than Quicken. Looks like I will stay with it for awhile. Best of luck with yours. I am currently running Money 2004 trial alongside Quicken 6 Deluxe (that tells you how long I've been a Quicken user.. but never considered an upgrade 'til now). I don't recall having any hidden accounts, but have a number of unused accounts (closed or no activity in years). My accounts converted from QW6 without a hitch. I have no complaints about Intuit's service or product except for two things: 1) the Safecast/C-Dilla fiasco from last year 2) I wish Quicken had a trial version like MS Money 2004. 3) OK, make it 3 things. Customer service is expensive, should you need it. Perhaps I've lived in a protected world with the old version of Quicken and just don't know any better. ;-) Currently, I'm vacillating between Money 2004 and the as yet untried Quicken 2004. I have bought both products and returned them without breaking the seal. Sure wish a trial version of Q was available. |

Now that's informative. You might want to respond to> I like you, used Quicken religously for the last 10 > years. | Chris, I discovered something last night. I like you, used Quicken religously for the last 10 years. I very disappointed with their service and current prodcut so I am considering a change. Anyway, the conversion is not easy and I am obviously having trouble. My data finally converted. I have to go through and delete all my "hidden" and unused accounts. Once I did that, Money converted the remaining data. Hope this helps. | Hi, Bob, At the stage I'm at -- I've just installed Money -- I don't have an "import" function on the menu, and Money won't let me "open" the QIF. It *will* let me open a "Quicken" file, but it only loads the standard Quicken DB, not the QIF, and just takes me through the same import process that fails. I managed to create a "new" Money DB, and after asking me for all the spurious info, I did get to the point where it automatically tried to import the QIF file I double- clicked on earlier. But it failed again on "three errors" that seemed to imply my QIF file was corrupt, and nothing came through. I then found I had "import" on the File menu, and found directions for getting to a QIF file, which I did, and was promptly greeted with the error message "Money could not write to your Money file. The operation cannot be performed or another task finished this operation before you. Please try again." Bob, I've been a Quicken user for 10 years, and a systems programmer for 25 years, and this makes no sense to me. (Microsoft, I expected MUCH better!!) Chris - quote - > -----Original Message----- > Rather than double clicking the QIF file have you tried loading Money then > from the File menu Import? > -- > Regards > Bob Peel, > Microsoft MVP - Money > Hints/Tips > http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx? scid=fh;EN-GB;mny > UK Wishes/Suggestions > mnyukwsh[at]microsoft.com > "Chris Cummings" <BitWizard[at]aol.com> wrote in message > news:052b01c36299$e4543cb0$a101280a[at]phx.gbl... > > I have the same problem -- trying to convert a 7Mb Quicken > > 2002 DB to Money2004.
