| Trust your own understanding of your situation, Dick - and once you know what you want your 1040ES payments to be, you can get vouchers from http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f1040es_04.pdf which contain interactive form fields. -- Michael Gordon MVP "Dick Watson" <littlegreengecko[at]mind-enufalready-spring.com> wrote in message news:ecDYa3fHFHA.3196[at]TK2MSFTNGP15.phx.gbl... - quote - > Two years in a row, last year with CompleteTax.com and this year with > TaxFreedom.com (TurboTax), the efile solution I've used has printed 1040ES > coupons. | That was certainly my theory last year. I'm a little mystified why the coupons are such a large amount this year. They give no hint how the value is calculated. Curiously, the prediction inherent in the values from the coupons is not that far off M04 Tax Estimator. I haven't figured out why it's so high, either, but I do have a large one-time income item scheduled in Money, so that--and how I estimated the associated withholding--may be part of it. (OTOH, TurboTax knew nothing of either of those. | Two years in a row, last year with CompleteTax.com and this year with TaxFreedom.com (TurboTax), the efile solution I've used has printed 1040ES coupons. Presumably, they think that I'll use these to send in quarterly estimated payments. Both years this has been done without asking anything (like what am I having withheld right now) that would enable any sane computation of where my tax liability vs. withholding will end up for this year. (Last year, the amount they wanted would have worked out about right-reducing my April 15th bill to 20% of what it is. Either way, I'm within 10% and withheld more than last year. I'd like to think this was a good sign, but this year's would indicate I'm WAY OFF and not that much, besides my withholding amount, has changed. Nowhere did they ask about that.) So, my questions: What happens if I ignore these things this year like I did last year? Anybody else seeing this? Is this just some way to generate extra cash flow that was "wired" into the efile provider validation requirements? |
