| Hi Susan, Thanks. You may be correct about the cash account. Fidelity does the same thing but it hasn't made any difference since I own non-taxable stuff in that account. I have an IRA and a Roth IRA separate and marked them as tax deferred. All of them download stuff to the associated cash accounts, but that might be my fault. I will look into it. | Hi Steve, I think I can help you with the first problem. I'll leave it to the experts to tackle the rest. If the dividend transactions are downloading into the cash account, that is most likely the problem. When I manually enter Reinvest Dividend transactions, it is done in the investment account, where it stays. OTOH, if the transaction is categorized as just Dividend, it creates a corresponding entry in the cash account. This is the way it's supposed to work. You might have to go back to manual entry for that FI, or there may be a way to edit online services to make the download go to the investment account. I have set up my retirement & non-retirement accounts at the same brokerage as two FI's: "TRP" & "TRP Retirement." That keeps the taxable dividends away from the tax-deferred. I have, however, had problems differentiating the regular IRA from the Roth IRA in the "TRP Retirement" one. It might be better to keep them separate, too. This will probably not allow you to use online services for the "fake" FI(s), but the IRA's shouldn't have all that many transactions to enter manually. I don't use the investment reports, so I can't address your questions about those. HTH, Susan "SteveC" <sconklan[at]yahoo.com> wrote in message news:%23Cxzh8RHFHA.1500[at]TK2MSFTNGP09.phx.gbl... - quote - > Morgan Keegan apparently downloads two transactions when I get dividends. > The first is for the buy and the second is for the dividend. | Morgan Keegan apparently downloads two transactions when I get dividends. The first is for the buy and the second is for the dividend. This seems staightforward. I have typed in Morgan Keegan for the Payee and Investment Income: Dividends for the category. For the buy it automatically puts this down as Dividend. Both download into the associated cash account of the MK Brokerage investment account. My positions update and all seems normal. However, 1) On Tax Tansactions reports, I end up getting the MK Dividends reported as a loss rather than an income. Going back in and changing the transaction to a deposit ends up giving me excess in the cash account. I go into the investment and make sure each is recorded as a buy from the Cash account, but I then find there still is a dividend transaction (a 3rd transactin apparently) that has to be voided or deleted. When I download again, all this mess redownloads if I delete it. What am I doing wrong? 2) I can simply delete all but the buy transaction and change it to reinvest dividend, of course. If I do this, I still get the redownloads plus the fact the dividends don't show up on the Transactions Report at all. 3) Now on the Tax Software Report, I do get the dividends reported there, but... a) it reports all of my dividends even from retirement accounts and those investments like municipal funds that are marked taxfree. I can work around this by customizing the report not to include my IRA or Roth IRA. But a brokerage account might have some taxable funds and non-taxable funds in them. What is the good of marking something a retirement account or marking a fund as non-taxable if Money doesn't use it? AM I MISSING SOMETHING HERE? b) There doesn't seem to be any Investment report that shows dividends, only capital gains. c) The transactions reports don't show Investment transactions at all. They are transactions. Again, I have used Money for years, but I either never realized this or it has changed in Money05. Anyone have suggestions or fomments for these problems 1-3? I will check out the knowledgebase and past messages too. Thanks. |
