| It depends on which company you own. If you own the company being purchased (example Texaco) and the surviving company is ChevronTexaco (formerly Chevron) and you owned no shares of Chevron you can do what Cal indicated - change the symbol on the Texaco investment to CVX and rename Texaco, Inc. to ChevronTexaco Corporation. This was not a 1 share for 1 shave merger so you would need to adjust the shares. You would need to remove a number of shares to account for your new number of shares in the new company. Your total dollars invested remains unchanged - just the shares. If you owned Chevron, Chevron Corp shares exchanged 1 share for 1 share, so all you would do is change the symbol from CVN to CVX and rename the investment. If you owned both, I would change the symbol from CVN to CVX and rename the investment for the Chevron Corp shares. For the Texaco shares I would remove all the Texaco shares and add back the proper number of shares in the CVX stock. The shares added back has a investment basis (cost) of what your paid/reinvested dividends for the Texaco stock. Your combined investement in ChevronTexaco is former Chevron shares plus former Texaco shares at the original amount invested in the pre-merger companies. |

Reorg Stock> Edition? Here is how you will need to do it if you did not hold both stocks involved in the merger. Go to the Details for the old stock. Change the symbol, rename the stock, add an appropriate comment, and do an appropriate split to achieve the ratio you want. Post the ratio you are trying to achieve if you want a suitable ratio of integers to enter for the split. |

| How can one do a share exchange (merger) in Money 2004 Standard (Canadian) Edition? This question arose on 19/02/2005 by Michael Brimicombe and was solved by Cal Learner for Money 2005. However, Learner's solution, which is actually given in my version's Help File, is not possible as the "record a merger" feature does not exist. in Money 2004. Any help would be appreciated. |
