Answers to questions in order:

Because, probably among other things, there are lots of things archiving
doesn't remove.

Are you asking what is the storage format/engine? MSISAM--which is a Jet
(the database engine under Access) derivative, apparently.

There seems to be some correlation between file size and performance but not
1.

My money file was becoming too large (about 21000KB), I thought. To
increase performance I decided to reduce the size by archiving and the size
only reduced by about 2000KB and I archived everthing. Why? Where is the
meat in this package? Where are the data files kept. Is speed dependent on
file size? How do I reduce file size?
