My experience, moving from a wired to a wireless connection, was that Money
2004 was terribly slow and 2005 was even worse. This is with the same
machine and the same large (80MB) dataset. I can use smaller datasets
without a problem.

so you have xp sp2? do you still have a time delay when using other ms
passport applications like windows messenger? have you ran the latest
microsoft updates at
windowsupdate.microsoft.com
the problem with laptops is that companies like dell install a whole
layer of applications so they can more easily interface with it, it
could really slow it down. you may also possibly have something wrong
with it. and maybe the first load is the longest because windows is
installing components behind the scenes and traffic was high.

i have an old p3 650 with a comcast cable modem also serving up
internet for my wifes mac G5, and i'll be running norton systemworks
disk optimizer and its fast, although if you have years! of data, i
could see it taking some time

Without a lot more information, it is difficult to comment. Networked how?
What kind of WiFi? What kind of WiFi security? What other nodes/what types?
Mixed or G? Infrastructure net or ad hoc? If wired, what standard? What
cabling? Full or half duplex? Switched/hubbed? Other devices on net? Desktop
is what kind of net to the AP? What kind of file service? How big is data
file? Does net have gateway to always-on Internet? It could be all of the
possibilities you cite and any of the possibilities I thought of generating
the above, hardly inclusive, list of questions.

What have you done to eliminate possibilities? What have you done to verify
the network operation? I fear your question is potentially way beyond the
scope of things we can deal with in a newsgroup.

NB: In general, Money over a net is much slower than Money on a local
machine. This is probably due to very many, very small, reads/writes. On
local machine, these incur small overhead and minimal latency. Over a net,
this is not the case. You may be moving 100s of times as much protocol as
actual data.

Default M05 and the Worthless Laptop

Here's one for you! I purchased a Dell Laptop, networked it to my home
office computer and was thrilled that I could now access Money from anywhere
in the house. BUT!! Never in my wildest dreams did I think it would take 10
minutes to load my portforlio on the laptop. If I had one wish, it would be
that M05 never happened and I would be working today in M04. Is M05 the
problem with slow loading? Is my new worthless (for M05) Dell Laptop the
problem? Maybe I'm doing something wrong! Can that be?
