1. To reduce the number of existing payees, go to
Accounts&Bills-> Categories&Payees-> Payees; select a
payee and use Move to combine payees. This is better in most cases
than Delete. Advanced Find&Replace may also be useful in
consolidating.

2. Tools-> Options-> Editing-> ConfirmNewPayees will give you the
option to not add a payee to the list that you are using one time
only. Set it.

3. Tools-> Options/Settings-> OnlineServices-> ReplacePayeeNames...
enables replacement of payees with names you have used. Set it.

Accounts&Bills-> Categories&Payees-> Payees-> PreferredPayeeNames
shows how downloaded names are translated into Payees.

4. When you get such a transaction, set the Payee to what you have
selected for Lowes. Money should catch on.

Default Categorizing

I always download my transactions every week or so and for some reason
microsoft money 2004 will not automatically categorize my transactions.
Autocomplete is turned on and I have also set the rename payee when possible
on. I used the find and replace to find all the payees and change them to
the payee decription I want. However, it still doesn't change the payees.

I believe the problem is that my transactions have numbers associated with
them and they are not the same. For example here are 2 transactions from
Lowe's.

PLATTSB NY0015 LOWE'S #11905021402140640
PLATTSB NY0015 LOWE'S #11905012901290225

How do I get microsoft money to change these to just "Lowe's" when I
download them? Thanks.
