Bear in mind that this behaviour is pretty typical of databases and
especially so on those based on Access type products. Once you have made a
change then the database is updated and as Cal says restoring a backup is
the only way to reverse out a change.

Unfortunately, downloading transaction data has been oversold and
underdeveloped--the banks just don't care enough to go implement the data
source in any way that's designed for reliability. Yodlee only makes this
worse--and it can because the banks didn't care to do it right. Yodlee's a
fake job. Given the way they do it, it's hard to imagine it will ever be
reliable.

You say that if you had time to enter transactions manually, you wouldn't
need Money. I'll accept that at face value, but it begs the question: what
are you expecting Money to do for you? There is NOTHING that Money does,
besides downloading transaction data, that depends uniquely on downloaded
transaction data. OTOH, data integrity is the core of making everything else
in Money produce valid and meaningful results. If that problem can't be
solved, there's very little Money can do that's worth doing. Manual entry
solves the data integrity problem. For many users, downloaded transaction
data doesn't.

Thanks for the advice. I'll try entering 90 days by hand. Don't think I
don't appreciate the advice but if I had the time to enter transactions
manually I don't know if I'd need Money. Microsoft also doesn't say "please
enter the first 90 days manually as our program kinda sucks at doing what we
say it does." Nor do they say "our essential register is for people who
don't care enough about their money to want a balance within several thousand
dollars of the actual balance." I AM a fan of the software I just think it
is interesting that it has so many secret flaws that I have to find a Money
genius like yourself to show me the ropes. However, trust me, Quicken is NOT
better here. I do appreciate your help. Have a great day. -Aaron

The Undo is File-> Restore.

In [M05: Tools-> Settings-> BackupOptions]
I suggest checking
x Automatically backup to hard disk on exit
x Prompt me before backing up each time*
x Make my file small ...

Then periodically, perhaps once per month or more, copy your
latest backup (named differently from your earlier backups) to a
CDR. With XP, this can be a copy and paste operation. Otherwise
use the burning software that came with your CDR drive.

I strongly suggest use of a USB Flash drive also, in addition to
backing up to your hard drive. They typically act like a big
floppy. For a more automated way to make multiple backups, see
Glyn Simpson's method at http://money.mvps.org/backup.aspx

* This has two advantages. You can change the file name
occasionally. I like to pick a name something like money 050211.
Then it is easy to change the name to have multiple backups. The
..mbf extension is automatic. The other advantage is that you can
choose "Don't Back Up, or you change your mind about exiting by
simply clicking the X in the upper right of the pop-up box.

BTW, I don't feel your pain. It's self induced--you can enter transactions
manually and skip all of this nonsense. Sorry.

BTW, do this in an Advanced Register. Essential Register is for people who
don't really care if the number is right or wrong.

Are you downloading transaction data? If so, start over and enter
transactions by hand for 90 days and balance to each of three monthly
statements. If you don't have this problem, I'd say your answer is at hand.

I've used Money for almost 12 years.

Default Money 2005 Account Adjustments Essential vs advanced...

I'm near giving up. Quicken and Money have almost defeated me again. I've
been using Money 2005 and I cannot for the love of Pete figure out why I
can't get my checking account to balance. I keep getting large "adjustments"
automatically entered into my register.

These throw my balance way off. It has something to do with Essential vs.
Advanced register. If I switch between them I get the adjustment and then
there is no turning back. I've started over by deleting the account and
redownloading from Bank of America three times.

If you feel my pain, please help. I'm pretty sure I can't be as stupid as
this thing is making me feel.

These applications are SO frustrating that I don't know how anyone could
really use them (why don't they have an "undo last action" button?????)
