I found a solution for what appears to be a real bug. Under "Program
settings", General, I had Start Money with this page open set to "Last
account register used". This was causing the problem. I used my regular
banking .mny file (where this setting was perfect) changed this setting
(it's now Account List) and now when I try to open the problematic file
there's no problem. Appears to be a genuine logic bug on Microsoft's part!
Thanks for taking the time with your suggestions Cal.

I would execute salv.exe (perhaps in
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Money 2005\MNYCoreFiles") and see if it
can make a repaired version of your problem file. Then open the
repaired file.

I was thinking you were saying that you had clicked Banking, but I
now see you were quoting a message.

Open a different file. Does Help-> About say version 14.0.*.1105?

How would I remove the password?

I'm locked out of that .mny file. If I switch to it I get stuck at the
login screen as described above. As soon as I enter my password I
experience the sceanrio described above and I'm back at the login screen
once I press Ok on that dialog. I suspect it should be simple for someone
else to verify: create a new file (File-> New) associate only a password (not
a .NET Passport) and then (say) one mutual fund account (no bank account).
Close out of Money and then try opening that file. This description is a
scaled down version of what I did.

Thanks,

Russell

Banking-> AddANewAccount doesn't bring up a screen that says
AccountType where you can select Investment?

You could try removing the password temporarily, but I can't
understand why that would be needed.

Default Can't open newly cretated file in Money 2005 - help!

I've got my regular banking info in Money 2005. I don't want investment
info details displayed each time I open my (password protected) banking file
so I created a NEW file for investments. I password protected it and then
skipped adding banking info and just added investment info by connecting
with various investment accounts. Finally I closed Money. I now try to
open Money - I select the file from File -> Open and it prompt me for the
password. I enter the password and then get a dialog which says "Before you
can enter transactions, you must first create an account. To create an
account, on the naviagation bar, click Banking, and then click Add a new
account" It the throws me back into the login screen (note the password
typed in is correct - if I type in a wrong password it says so). So it
looks like there's no way for me to get in because I never did associate a
bank. Any ideas as to a way around this? I hate to lose all that I've
entered and I really don't have a bank I want to associate with this
information.

Help!

Thanks,

Russell
