I recommend that you upgrade Money to 2004, if you can find a copy. It's
probably available cheap on eBay and I personally experienced a significant
speed improvement from 2003 to 2004. Perhaps others did not.

I recommend that you NOT "upgrade" to Money 2005. Read around this newsgroup
for negative comments. There are plenty. Some users are satisfied.

If you're buying a new computer from common vendors (HP, Dell, etc.) it's
may have a copy of Money included.

your biggest bottleneck will be in your internet connection speed if
you use the passport feature

i have a pentium 3 amd 650 mhz machine (older machine!) running my home
wireless network for a mac G5 and a newer hp laptop (less than 1GHZ).
and both pcs work just fine.

unless you find an old pc at a garage sale - no worries

A 200 GHz 32-bit processor with 2 GB of PC32000 DDR-XVIII memory and a
RAID-5 disk array using 1us seek time 24,000 rpm drives should pretty much
assure that Money only seems slow when entering Budget Planner and Tax
Estimator. It would pretty much always seem snappy everywhere else if you
had a computer that was that fast.

Seriously, the published "system requirements" for M03 list a machine that
hasn't been available for about a decade as being suitable for Money. On the
other hand, many users who have more than a couple of month's worth of data
collected in Money find it excruciatingly slow and come here asking the
question even though they are running it on the fastest Win32 computer
hardware money can buy today. Microsoft's system requirements are low by an
order of magnitude, unless you Really Want To Watch The Hourglass Today.

Dell lists a $349 entry level machine as having:
Dimension 2400
- Intel® Celeron® Processor (2.40GHz, 400 FSB)
- 256MB Shared DDR SDRAM at 266MHz
- 40GB Ultra ATA/100 7200RPM Hard Drive

For a new machine, something in this territory (and I'm not endorsing
Dell/Intel--just went there for speed) would run Money tolerably under all
conditions. You still won't find it blazingly fast compared to most other
applications doing most other tasks on the same hardware. Money just isn't
designed to seem fast.

Any tradeoffs in this level of machine for Money use should be directed
toward more memory than 256 MB.

If you are getting any "new" computer it will be much more than fast enough.

Default MSMoney & good performance --

I am getting a new computer to use with Money. Just how fast a computer
does one need that is generally used only with Money? I am very familiar
with V2003. MS vice presidents must know.
Thanks!
