Unlike M04, which allows you to ignore the joint account when downloading
for one of the signatories, M05 requires downloading all accounts for all
signatories. The result is the duplication you describe and I think your
workaround is the only option.

Default RE: Multiple accounts at a single financial institution

Well I guess I finally got this to work (sort of, anyway). I followed Cal's
advice of using a "second" financial institution. What this did was to
create 3 NEW accounts....one for each of the accounts owned by my wife or by
her jointly with me. For the one she owns by herself , I was able to merge
the new account with the existing account of the same "name" and wound up
with one account with all the transactions in it....so far so good!!!

When I tried to follow the same plan for the 2 jointly owned accounts, I was
not allowed to merge them. So....what I did was to "close" them (cant delete
for some reason without deleting all accounts at the same financial
institution). The "closing" leaves them out of any consideration for totals
or reporting but leaves them in the "Account List". They are updated
whenever I connect to that institution but other than that they seem to be
pretty benign.

Comments???? Or conversation????

Thanks,
Rich

And in M04, you can tell the second login to ignore shared accounts,
avoiding duplication. I don't think you can do that in 05, can you?

Yes. In Help's Ask Money box, enter "two accounts". One of the items
should apply.

Default RE: Multiple accounts at a single financial institution

It seems that the joint accounts are the problem....BTW these already exist
in Money (were imported from 2004 and I could not get things to work there
either). 2005 trys to set up seperate accounts under each login for the 2
joint accounts my wife and I share. It will let me merge the new accounts
with the old for one of the logins but not both. I think the easiest
solution is to change the ownership on the accounts to one of us or the other
so that each account has 1 login rather than 2. Anybody have any other
suggestions???

It depends how you can see them today. If your Investments have two
logins, you will need to set them up twice - once for each login.
Money will ID that you already have an account with this firm and it
will ask you if it uses the same login information. When you say no it
will prompt you for the login information. They are not updated 'at
the same time' as they are two or more accounts in Money, but they can
be updated within the same update.

If you have different login credentials, this is something I think
will work for you. Keep an extra copy/backup of your file in case
you do not like the result.

Create the new account but when you get to the "Assign a financial
institution" window specify that the institution is at "MyBank
Alice" or some such. Then on the next window you "Confirm the name
of your financial institution" to MyBank from the list. If you
already have the accounts, try changing the Financial Institution in
the Account Details. You might have to stop online access for that
institution first. Make your changes. Then set up online access
again.

The plan is that Money treat them as separate institutions and makes
separate requests with separate access info.

This has not come up for Money 2005 that I remember, so there may be
some factor that I am not considering. Let us know how it works for
you.

Default Multiple accounts at a single financial institution

My wife and I have multiple accounts at a large investment company. Some of
them are mine, some are hers and some are jointly owned so they are governed
by either her SSAN, mine or both. I am not able to get Money 2005 configured
to handle this situation. Can someone help so that I can download
transactions from the investment house all at the same time.

Thanks,
