| Certain checking account types at Wachovia allow a couple freebies per month. I'm sure it has to do with minimum balance. I initially chose Wachovia because they supported Money direct banking and had a lot of ATMs in my area. I can always find one without much problem. Failing that, buy a pack of gum at your local drug store at the POS terminal and ask for cash back. -- Chris Cowles Gainesville, FL <cpemberton2[at]hotmail.com> wrote in message news:1109598137.273269.246690[at]o13g2000cwo.googlegroups.com... - quote - > Wachovia has much better service. | I have used Netbank for about two years and I must say that their service is mostly nonexistent, and when you can get some, their reps are extremely rude and unhelpful. I've never had a major problem with them, but from reading online banking forums, I have heard horror stories. Since I was using them as my main bank, I decided to get out before I had a real problem. I am now using Wachovia bank which has free checking, free online bill pay and free bill pay from Money. Like Netbank, you can also use Wachovia bill pay within Money to make epays and apays. You don't even have to set up the payees of the website beforehand, just set them up in Money and send the payment. Next time you go to the online bill pay website, you see the payees to whom you have sent payments in Money all set up. Wachovia has much better service. The only disadvantage compared to Netbank is that you pay for ATM transactions at non-Wachovia ATMS. But the service there is much better. | Hi, well in Alabama I have found just one that does deposits and it is in Mobile. So that is out. There is a 4-business day delay for the transfers in and that is after the supplying bank does it, which is 2-days. That means about 6-7 Business Days to get a deposit credited!! And 5,000 dollars is the limit. As you say it is best for long term savings so would like to send more. So wire transfer ($15 fee) seems the way to go. I will make enough in interest to justify it I guess. I still hesitate because two weeks after opening accounts, I still don't see my check order or my ATM/VISA card. The bank is in Atlanta, which is one day away by mail. So I remain unimpressed. Still, if maybe all this is because of regulations and getting the account opened and then it won't be aproblem. I am going to see what happens this week. But I probably will hunt elsewhere ultimately. I certainly am not sending them any more money without checks, deposits, etc. "Chris Cowles" <NoSpam[at]For.me> wrote in message news:OY9hwG5GFHA.544[at]TK2MSFTNGP12.phx.gbl... - quote - > They'll do online transfers into the netbank account from another bank at > no cost. | They'll do online transfers into the netbank account from another bank at no cost. It's on their web-based online banking stuff. They also have a number of ATMs with which they associate, mostly credit unions. I deposit checks in the credit union ATM at the shopping center closest to me. Posting delays are brief. My beef is that Netbank won't do online transfers *OUT* of the account like Fidelity will. | Online Banking is free at Fidelity. The only thing I am unsure of is how they sell the securities as you need the Money; keeping up with cost basis would be difficult though I keep most of my funds in non-taxable funds, so that is one way to do it. I am slowly getting set up with net bank and I can get my money out pretty easily, but getting it in is such a hassle that I am not sure I want to do that. | I use NetBank only for essentially stagnant money. Their interest rates are better. Their service is far, far worse. Is online banking with Fidelity free if you maintain minimum balances? If so, what is the lost opportunity cost of that minimum balance? -- Chris Cowles Gainesville, FL "SteveC" <sconklan[at]yahoo.com> wrote in message news:u63J%23DwFFHA.2564[at]tk2msftngp13.phx.gbl... - quote - > Netbank update. > Well, this bank isn't for the faint of heart. > ... > Now I am looking at a Fidelity Money Management account; I already have an > account with Fidelity and they do wire transfers and I have access > immediately. | Netbank update. Well, this bank isn't for the faint of heart. They took my money earlier this week (Money) and it was transferred on Wednesday, but Netbank doesn't deign to acknowledge it. They have asked me again for signature cards though I mailed them to PA on Monday too. They now tell me because I am a new depositor, it will be FEB 28 at before I have access to my funds. It will be then before I can order a bankcard too. They asked me to allow up to 14 days for the signature cards I mailed to be processed. After 30 days (is Mar 14 or Mar 28), they will give me quicker access to my funds when I transfer them. Their argument is that the bank whence I wire the money can take it back for up to 10 days! The documentation up front was that it could take up to 4 days -- now it is 2 weeks. I asked them if they could do a credit check if they didn't trust me and they said no. So fortunately I only gave them token sums of money in the first transfer and so on Feb 28, I will write on check to withdraw my money and start over again. As I told them, I can hardly trust them with direct deposits of my paychecks when I cannot use the money! Now I am looking at a Fidelity Money Management account; I already have an account with Fidelity and they do wire transfers and I have access immediately. I am dubious about the cost basis of using them for bill payment, etc. They also work with Microsoft Money. I guess no one knows of a better deal for online banking in Money with a decent interest rate on a Money Market account. I am talking about 2% at least! | Steve, I've sent you an e-mail regarding this subject. But just so there's some closure here... I signed up for Netbank's online bill pay service and cancelled MSN Billpay. I then cancelled my online services with Netbank from within Money 2005. The next morning (today) I went into Money 2005 and signed up for services again (I did this to find out what services were available to me). Sure enough I now have Online Updates *and* Online Bill Payment listed! I sent myself a check for $1 and confirmed the payment at the Netbank web site. Sure enough it was listed there. Thanks to cpemberton for letting us know this was possible. However, given the dearth of information and the directly conflicting info given by a Netbank customer service rep I simply had to confirm this for myself. Now the group has at least 2 confirmed users of Netbank's Bill Payment service from within Money 2005. That's fair. His complaint seems frustrated enough that in his case, paying the net $2.30/mo might be worth it to him. But it's certainly not the case for everyone. As for me, I'm with you. I'd rather not pay the fee. But to each his/her own. |

| Sure, MSN Billpay rates are reasonable but it's still a cost and one I'd prefer not to have to pay. When Money software came with a free year of Billpay (and effectively every year if you continue to upgrade) you get used to it being free. Now that they have cut this back to a mere 3 months I would rather use my bank's free billpay than even pay the $5.95/mo. Why? Well, I'm a stickler for fees. I always pay my credit cards at the end of the month, I never do anything that would incur a fee at a bank. It's gotten so it's sort of a game and I like to play it. :-) But you are right, MSN Billpay is a bargain when you get right down to it. | Why? What's wrong with MSN Billpay, other than having to pay for it? Surely the cost can't be so much that it scares you away? It's $5.95/month for 15 bill/transfer transactions or $2.95 for 5 transactions. Assuming you pay $5.95 and send 10 transactions, that ~60 cents apiece. Stamps cost 37 cents (or is it 38? I haven't mailed a check in years, literally) cutting the transaction cost down to 23 cents. So, for a net cost of $2.30 per month, you get direct bill pay integrated into Money. How much do you pay for a cup of coffee? -- Chris Cowles Gainesville, FL "SteveC" <sconklan[at]yahoo.com> wrote in message news:O95LKAkEFHA.1396[at]tk2msftngp13.phx.gbl... - quote - > ... > It looks as though we are going to be forced to give up Money and Quicken > and go to Internet Banking. | In my copy of M04, on the 'Online Services Manager' page, the only service listed for NetBank is "Direct Statements". That differs from Wachovia, which says "Direct Statements" as well as "Electronic Bill Payment". When I click the link at the bottom where it says "Set up electronic bill pay service", the only additional options are MSN Billpay and Checkfree (existing customers only). M05 differs in that you can get 'direct' statements from banks not offering a true direct connection. That uses Yodlee as an intermediary. I've not heard of the Yodlee service including Billpay. -- Chris Cowles Gainesville, FL "SteveC" <sconklan[at]yahoo.com> wrote in message news:u29h65iEFHA.2180[at]TK2MSFTNGP12.phx.gbl... - quote - > I am so confused by this. | From my research, this is my conclusion: Banks that have Full checking with interest and premium money market rates do not support Money and Quicken direct services Banks that do support Money and Quicken direct services have crappy rates. The difference is astounding. Typical premium rates are 2% -2.5%, but no native Money and Quicken support. Banks with native Money and Quicken support give rates from .5% - 1.3% Do Microsoft and Quicken charge banks so much that that it costs 1%-2% interest on an account? I checked out Netbank, NBank, INGDirect, Everbank, Countrywide Internet Bank, First Internet Bank of Indiana, and others I forget to mention. Anyone know of an internet bank that does support Money? Please raise your hand? It looks as though we are going to be forced to give up Money and Quicken and go to Internet Banking. Our loyalty is costing us money. We will have to use something like MSN or MyCompass to maintain all our accounts and access to Credit Cards to keep our records. Disgusting.
