It takes about eight seconds to bring up the portfolio display, and I have about 50 positions shown. Other operations, such as posting transactions, take less than one second. | Anybody seriously using M98+ for more than a year or two has a file as large or larger than 4MB. Next time you talk to him, ask what documented constraint/limitation this exceeds. (Answer: none. You don't need to tell him the question is a test.) What a crock. It probably got you off the call, though. | IMHO the support rep is talking from the place where the sun doesn't shine! My Money file dating back to '95 is 12mb and there are others with much bigger files. Although I haven't studied it properly, I have a theory that the .mny file size grows until it reaches a plateau and doesn't grow much after that. As far as I can see version changes seem to have more effect on file sizes. The known killer is stock quotes, so maybe you want to prune stocks that you no longer hold and haven't held for a long time. -- Regards Bob Peel, Microsoft MVP - Money For UK tips & fixes see http://support.microsoft.com/default...d=fh;EN-GB;mny. | In early 2003 I experienced file corruption problems and an MS support rep helped me to run the salvage program on my .mny file. He told me that my problem resulted from the .mny file's growing too large. It was about 4 meg, which he said was too big. He recommended that I archive every year. I just looked at my file. Haven't archived since the beginning of 2003, so I archived. The .mny file only shrunk from 3.9 to 3.5 meg. Started to look here and read the FAQ page. I see tht some of you recommend against archiving, so I renamed the archive file back to my primary name. My question is ... do I need to be concerned about the size of my .mny file? If yes, how do I shrink the size of the current data file? Thanks for any help you can give me. -- Ann Scharpf |
