| Interesting that that's how they tell you then don't like 800x600. Of course, everything transactions forms can do can be done (easier/better/with less wasted screen real estate) without them. | Mark; I Deleted registry entries- reloaded- even tried on my laptop also. Downloaded from internet- Stiil same- over 22 hours invested so far in MS Money 2005. THEN- I re- read all posts and found that YOU areGOOD--- MONEY Is NOT- I hope that Microsoft is paying you well!! It turns out that Screen resolution was the problem --!!!! At the 800x600-setting- Forms will only work with investment accounts- I DO NOT KNOW WHY???? but at 1024x768- Forms works on all accounts!!!! But- with all af the wasted space on the top of and side of screen- this makes it too hard for my 55 yr old eyes and not my resolution of choice. MS Money 2005 is very dissapointing in these respects. I have been using MS Money for over 8 years- almost daily- and I will go back to 2003 until something changes. This has been my largest dissapointment with any MS product EVER, and makes me very upset to throw away $60+. Thank you again Mark- for your help. | I will edit the registry as outlined and try a reinstall. I have installed this disk on another computer- my laptop- and it was flawed as on my desktop. Will post my results Thanks "Mark" wrote: - quote - > Since the Sample.mny file worked fine, I'd assumed a New file would also > work (I don't recall if you said previously that you'd tried a new file). > But since you have confirmed that you have a similar problem in a NEW file, > then this probably is NOT file specific. > So some other suggestions: > 1. | Since the Sample.mny file worked fine, I'd assumed a New file would also work (I don't recall if you said previously that you'd tried a new file). But since you have confirmed that you have a similar problem in a NEW file, then this probably is NOT file specific. So some other suggestions: 1. Check your Windows - Display settings (try 1024x768, and if it was set to "Large Fonts" change it back to "Normal" - if you are using Windows XP, that's via the Advanced button on the Settings tab of the Display Properties dialog). 2. There's a slim possibility there could be a problem with the 2005 CD you have (but I'm doubtful). You could try uninstalling Money completely (including the Windows Registry entries, reference http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;823213). If you had not tried this previously, then reinstall Money and see if it works properly. If it fails (or you had tried this previously) try downloading the Trial version of Money: http://www.microsoft.com/money/freetrial_info.mspx to confirm if it was a problem with the CD. 3. See if it will work properly on a different computer. It is highly likley that it is something unique to this computer, and if it wasn't number 1 above, then it may require some additional work to identify what else on that computer is causing this. -Mark "Ppaul" <Ppaul[at]discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:81ECDCA4-8AAA-40CC-8FF0-B8E0859A3802[at]microsoft.com... - quote - > Wonderful Suggestions Mark- BUT- nothing seems to work-- > My 2003 Money is on OEM disk along with MS Works and does not have the > salv.exe on the disk- I did try the salve.exe that I found on my older 2002 > Money disk- But it would not even try to convert the 2003 file--- > The Transaction forms seem to work only on Investment accounts and > Retirement- Not Cash- Not Banking- No Others- > I have uninstalled 2005 and reinstalled- > The Transaction forms Will not even work if I Open a brand New File and use > "Bank Accounts" to set up a new bank account!! | Wonderful Suggestions Mark- BUT- nothing seems to work-- My 2003 Money is on OEM disk along with MS Works and does not have the salv.exe on the disk- I did try the salve.exe that I found on my older 2002 Money disk- But it would not even try to convert the 2003 file--- The Transaction forms seem to work only on Investment accounts and Retirement- Not Cash- Not Banking- No Others- I have uninstalled 2005 and reinstalled- The Transaction forms Will not even work if I Open a brand New File and use "Bank Accounts" to set up a new bank account!! Will work with cash and "Other accounts"- not Bank If it will not work with a BRAND NEW- "File" I cannot believe it could work an an older file of mine that it is having to import and modify???? Could I have a bad CD or mayby 2005 just doesn't work as advertised??? Thanks for your patience and helpfulness. | Is this occuring for ALL banking accounts (Checking, Savings, CC) but NOT for other types of accounts (Investment, Retirement, Cash?, Loan?). For the Investment accounts, do you have associated Cash/Contribution accounts? Do those "associated" accounts have the same problem? You might try loading up the 2003 file in Money 2003 and try Repairing it in Money 2003. "Repair" was not a File option in 2003, so you'll need to run the salv.exe located in the PSS folder of the Money 2003 CD. Note, you can have both Money 2003 and 2005 installed at the same time. But the "file associations" will be set for the version last installed. (i.e. if you double-click a .mny file outside of Money, it will start the version of Money that was last installed). If Salvage does not fix the problem in 2003, you might try creating a new 'test' file in 2003 and then see if Money 2005 can convert that and work as expected. If that works, here are a some options you could explore: 1. Try to manually "hack and slash" a COPY of your 2003 file and try converting it to 2005 to see if you can isolate what is "corrupting" it. I'd suspect it's probably one of the Banking accounts since that's where the problem exhibits itself. 2. Export your accounts to QIF files and import them either into another 2003 file or directly into a new 2005 file. 3. Stick with 2003 until you have time to figure out the "corruption". Since this file has problems converting to 2005, I'd suspect it will still have problems converting to even newer versions of Money when the come out. 4. Start over in 2005. You can use option 2 to add some/most of your data into the new file. -Mark "Ppaul" <Ppaul[at]discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:14BEAFDC-FF65-4B98-A7F0-CE967F1A76C4[at]microsoft.com... - quote - > That didn't work either- Upgraded my laptop to Money 2005 also- HAS SAME > PROBLEM- OUCH-- Might have to go back to 2003- it still works- > "Ppaul" wrote: > > Yes it is "Advanced Register"- I do have a copy of the old .mny file that I > > could start- But- will try that Thanks. > > > "Mark" wrote: > > > > Are you using the Advanced Register (does it say that at the top right, or > > > does it say "Essential")? > > > If you are using "Advanced" and since other files behave properly, it may be > > > some corruption in your file that couldn't be easily "Repaired" > > > > > Do you have other copies of you file that you can try converting to Money > > > 2005? > > > > > -Mark > > > > > > > "Ppaul" <Ppaul[at]discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message > > > news:129066C2-CC16-4FA9-94DB-3528C045C5AA[at]microsoft.com... > > > > Thanks again Mark- But- I did the Repair- no change- It shows up in > > > "banking" > > > > and "credit" accounts- and yes - If I start a "new" bank account- it is > > > also > > > > greyed out for "Show Transaction Forms on screen in "register View" and in > > > > the drop down "Change register view"- > > > > > > > > > > "Mark" wrote: > > > > > > > > It definitely sounds like this is file specific then. > > > > > Have you tried Repairing the file? > > > > > Since it appears to only be with "banking" accounts, if you add a new > > > > > account, does the same behavior occur? > > > > > In the Change Register View drop-down, is this where the "Use forms to > > > enter > > > > > transactions" option is greyed out? > > > > > If so, what are the other settings? > > > > > > > > > -Mark > > > > > > > > > "Ppaul" <Ppaul[at]discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message > > > > > news:3E52D0ED-BB09-4256-A708-2B0FDF2BC1DC[at]microsoft.com... > > > > > > Thanks for your reply Mark- But- All accounts in "sample money" seem > > > to > > > > > work > > > > > > fine-- In My Accounts- The 8 Checking Accounts nor the 7 Credit > > > Accounts- > > > > > > work with Transaction forms- It is greyed out- ---My 7 investment > > > > > accounts > > > > > > do have the ability to use Transaction forms!-- Seems very strange to > > > me.- > > > > > > All worked good in 2003-Money- > > > > > > Thanks again > > > > > > > > > > > "Mark" wrote: > > > > > > > > > > > > This might be a conflict with the current Windows display settings > > > > > you're > > > > > > > using. > > > > > > > What are they set for? | Are you using the Advanced Register (does it say that at the top right, or does it say "Essential")? If you are using "Advanced" and since other files behave properly, it may be some corruption in your file that couldn't be easily "Repaired" Do you have other copies of you file that you can try converting to Money 2005? -Mark "Ppaul" <Ppaul[at]discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:129066C2-CC16-4FA9-94DB-3528C045C5AA[at]microsoft.com... - quote - > Thanks again Mark- But- I did the Repair- no change- It shows up in "banking" > and "credit" accounts- and yes - If I start a "new" bank account- it is also > greyed out for "Show Transaction Forms on screen in "register View" and in > the drop down "Change register view"- > "Mark" wrote: > > It definitely sounds like this is file specific then. > > Have you tried Repairing the file? > > Since it appears to only be with "banking" accounts, if you add a new > > account, does the same behavior occur? > > In the Change Register View drop-down, is this where the "Use forms to enter > > transactions" option is greyed out? > > If so, what are the other settings? > > > -Mark > > > "Ppaul" <Ppaul[at]discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message > > news:3E52D0ED-BB09-4256-A708-2B0FDF2BC1DC[at]microsoft.com... > > > Thanks for your reply Mark- But- All accounts in "sample money" seem to > > work > > > fine-- In My Accounts- The 8 Checking Accounts nor the 7 Credit Accounts- > > > work with Transaction forms- It is greyed out- ---My 7 investment > > accounts > > > do have the ability to use Transaction forms!-- Seems very strange to me.- > > > All worked good in 2003-Money- > > > Thanks again > > > > > "Mark" wrote: > > > > > > This might be a conflict with the current Windows display settings > > you're > > > > using. > > > > What are they set for? | Thanks again Mark- But- I did the Repair- no change- It shows up in "banking" and "credit" accounts- and yes - If I start a "new" bank account- it is also greyed out for "Show Transaction Forms on screen in "register View" and in the drop down "Change register view"- "Mark" wrote: - quote - > It definitely sounds like this is file specific then. > Have you tried Repairing the file? > Since it appears to only be with "banking" accounts, if you add a new > account, does the same behavior occur? > In the Change Register View drop-down, is this where the "Use forms to enter > transactions" option is greyed out? > If so, what are the other settings? > -Mark > "Ppaul" <Ppaul[at]discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message > news:3E52D0ED-BB09-4256-A708-2B0FDF2BC1DC[at]microsoft.com... > > Thanks for your reply Mark- But- All accounts in "sample money" seem to > work > > fine-- In My Accounts- The 8 Checking Accounts nor the 7 Credit Accounts- > > work with Transaction forms- It is greyed out- ---My 7 investment > accounts > > do have the ability to use Transaction forms!-- Seems very strange to me.- > > All worked good in 2003-Money- > > Thanks again > > > "Mark" wrote: > > > > This might be a conflict with the current Windows display settings > you're > > > using. > > > What are they set for? | It definitely sounds like this is file specific then. Have you tried Repairing the file? Since it appears to only be with "banking" accounts, if you add a new account, does the same behavior occur? In the Change Register View drop-down, is this where the "Use forms to enter transactions" option is greyed out? If so, what are the other settings? -Mark "Ppaul" <Ppaul[at]discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:3E52D0ED-BB09-4256-A708-2B0FDF2BC1DC[at]microsoft.com... - quote - > Thanks for your reply Mark- But- All accounts in "sample money" seem to work > fine-- In My Accounts- The 8 Checking Accounts nor the 7 Credit Accounts- > work with Transaction forms- It is greyed out- ---My 7 investment accounts > do have the ability to use Transaction forms!-- Seems very strange to me.- > All worked good in 2003-Money- > Thanks again > "Mark" wrote: > > This might be a conflict with the current Windows display settings you're > > using. > > What are they set for? | Thanks for your reply Mark- But- All accounts in "sample money" seem to work fine-- In My Accounts- The 8 Checking Accounts nor the 7 Credit Accounts- work with Transaction forms- It is greyed out- ---My 7 investment accounts do have the ability to use Transaction forms!-- Seems very strange to me.- All worked good in 2003-Money- Thanks again "Mark" wrote: - quote - > This might be a conflict with the current Windows display settings you're > using. > What are they set for? | This might be a conflict with the current Windows display settings you're using. What are they set for? (Control Panel - Display) If it is set to 640x480 or 800x600, I'd suggest increasing the desktop area to 1024x768. Also check the font. If it's been changed to "large fonts" or some customized size, that could be the problem. But, if it is account specific where some accounts work fine, but others do not, then it may be specific to those accounts. What's different about those accounts? What "type" of account are they? Does this same behavior occur in the Sample.mny file and/or in a NEW file? -Mark "Ppaul" <Ppaul[at]discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:6346A6E8-BB21-4FD6-B391-0D66146637F0[at]microsoft.com... - quote - > For some reason, several of my accounts won't let me use > the expanded transaction form for inputting data -- the > options are greyed out. | For some reason, several of my accounts won't let me use the expanded transaction form for inputting data -- the options are greyed out. I just upgraded to 2005 Money- Yes I have advanced register turned on for all accounts- have tried turning it off and back on - no luck- also 05 seems slower than previous 03 version and I do not like the wasted space at top 1/3 of screen- items too large font. -- Ppaul |
