| I;m not clear whether your 2005 program has got the update - the update fixed a number of conversion problems, hence why I suggested it. To check, Money 2005 will have a version 14.0.??.1105 - the 1105 is the important bit. Of course, if 2003 is working fine, then carry on with that for the moment, but if you do decide to convert to 2005 at a later date, then this update will be required. -- Glyn Simpson, Microsoft MVP - Money http://money.mvps.org Check http://support.microsoft.com/default...d=fh;EN-GB;mny or http://money.mvps.org/faq for UK tips and fixes for MS Money. | Tried this last night. No luck. I've used the salvage tool on a copy of the file. It reports a couple of transaction problems but says they are fixed. Unfortunately, I still can't get the file to load in 2005. The file is pretty big. It's been some time since I've worked with it and Money 2003 has been collecting transactions from my bank all this time. Do you think it would help to revert to 2003 and catch up before I try to load it into 2005? | What might be an idea is as soon as you start Money, click on file-> new and create a new file (ie don't convert the old one immediately). This will remove the conversion issue to start with and allow Money to download it's update. If this succeeds, you can then allow Money to convert the file. The comms error could be the program trying to connect to the update servers, removing the conversion might help establish whether that's the case. The .M14 file refers to a backup copy of the Money 2005 file. Because the first conversion hasn't yet happened, you won't have one of those (you'll have a .M11 file which is the backup of the Money 2003 file). -- Glyn Simpson, Microsoft MVP - Money http://money.mvps.org Check http://support.microsoft.com/default...d=fh;EN-GB;mny or http://money.mvps.org/faq for UK tips and fixes for MS Money. | Thanks for the response Bob. I'm on a cable modem. The connection is live all the time. Could there be a firewall issue? I'm using XP SP2 and am behind a D-Link cable modem router. It's set up with UpNP and usually works transparently on this kind of thing. | I'm upgrading from Money 2003 to 2005. When 2005 starts it says it's converting the file. It makes the back up copy but then hangs for a long time (5-10 minutes) then comes up with an error... " A communication error occurred. Please try your call again. If you continue to have problems call your financial institutions Online Services Customer Support" If I revert to 2003 everything works as it should. The knowledge base mentions this error message. It says the fix is to search for a file *.m14 and turn off MSN bill pay. A search doesn't produce any file that matches *.m14. Anyone have any suggestions? |
