| God bless you guys!! After 48 hours of heartache, the "dummy administrator" fix worked for transferring Money 2005 files from my "old" PC with Windows XP Home SP2, to a new computer with Windows XP Professional SP2. It required quitting & opening the "dummy admin" version of Money 2005 a couple of times to get the update working, but it worked smoothly once updated! Another 48 hrs of my life I will never see again..... Thanks!!! drijanthony IPGlory wrote: - quote - > Thanks for the information; I'm not ready to pay for the new Money 2006. > Frankly, I'm a little ticked at the hassle this reinstallation procedure > caused. Any ideas? off background banking at Tools-> Settings-> AccessYourMoneyDataOnTheWeb and then File-> PasswordManager you can choose to remove your Passport. To remove a conventional password, see File-> PasswordManager. |

| Thanks for the information; I'm not ready to pay for the new Money 2006. Frankly, I'm a little ticked at the hassle this reinstallation procedure caused. Generally a MS fan, they sure made it difficult to do a simply task. If you are interested (and thanks to your suggestion of this being a user glitch), I solved the problem. I set up a dummy administrator account, logged in and performed a clean install of Money 2005. I opened the sample file and, just as previously posts indicated, Money 2005 prompted me to update to the latest version of the product. THIS NEVER OCCURRED WHEN I INSTALLED MONEY 2005 WHEN LOGGED INTO THE USER ACCOUNT THAT I SET UP DURING XP INSTALLATION. It installed the .1105 version. Fortunately, I could still access the .1105 version when I logged out of the dummy admin account and logged back into my original admin account. And I was able to easily open my salvaged Money 2005 filed. I then deleted the dummy account. (Now I just hope there are no unforseen issues with future upgrades in my original admin account, given that a different administrator installed the program....?) Now my different question is how can I turn off or disassociate a Passport with an existing file if I no longer want to use any online services. Help tell how to add a Passport to a file but not delete one. Any ideas? Thanks David "Cal Learner-- MVP" wrote: - quote - > In microsoft.public.money, IPGlory wrote: > > > I normally run McAffee, but have not installed it from Comcast since I > > reinstalled so that is not the problem. I would think so, yes. The new user is something I suggest as a> create a new profile with admin privileges when I reinstalled XP. I have to think that the Money 2005 problem is beatable. However> ridiculous that I cannot access it. Money 2006 would be a good solution with less work. The deluxe trial can be downloaded. Assuming you decided to go with it beyond the trial, I would get the CD. It can be had economically. Under $25 at Sams with no rebate. It runs fine without needing an update such as Money 2005 does. Money 2006 works and looks like Money 2005, but it has non-obvious improvements. The most obvious improvement IMHO is the default production of multiple backup files that incorporate the date into the file name. |

| Thanks for the response. Trying to avoid the agonizing detail of the recent few days, here it the story: Yesterday I started receiving the blue screen of death with XP after I added two striping raid drives. Unable to solve the problem, I salvaged all filed from the OS drive to a separate, secondary system, including all of my Money 2005 files. I then reformatted the OS drive and reinstalled XP and, subsequently, Money 2005. I then copies over the salvaged Money 2005 files to the new OS drive...and since them have been receiving the noted error. I normally run McAffee, but have not installed it from Comcast since I reinstalled so that is not the problem. I noted that Windows firewall was installed automatically, but I have since disabled that and reinstalled Money 2005, thinking that may be the problem. Thus, I shoud have no firewall issues at present. You other question is more interesting. I think the answer is yes. I did create a new profile with admin privileges when I reinstalled XP. I think this was the same (user name and password) as existed before my XP system crashed, but even if not the case, surely as long as I have admin privileged (regardless of the precise user name/password) it should allow me to update Money 2005? What can be done? The Money 2005 data is irreplaceable and it seems ridiculous that I cannot access it. Thank you very much for solutions! | So, you can get to the point where an Internet Update should download the patch. The problem then becomes why an Internet Update isn't downloading and running/installing the .1105 update. I guess I don't have a good idea on that but now maybe your problem will be clearer to others who might. | I could open a new file or load the sample file, and proceed to Money 2005 home screen. However, neither process resulted in updating the Money 2005 from version 14.0.120.728 to a different or later version. I have also tried hitting the Update Now option. The best I can tell is that this ONLY update stocks, etc.; not the actual Money 2005 program. How can I force it to update the Money 2005 version from 14.0.120.728 to the current version (presumed 14.0.120.1105)? I assume that is why I cannot open my files or backups. | Help! I am experiencing the problems described with Money 2005 associated with reinstallation and attempts to load previously saved data: can't locate file. I have confirmed that I am in fact using version 14.0.120.728. However, despite repeated attempts to open new files, following the repeated instructions in these threads, it will not upgrate Money 2005 to version 14.0.120.1105. Any idea why? This is VERY frustrating. Thanks David "Glyn Simpson, MVP" wrote: - quote - > The reason you can't get into it is because you would have been running the > 'upgraded' 2005 version (build 1105). | The reason you can't get into it is because you would have been running the 'upgraded' 2005 version (build 1105). However, on resintall, you'll be back to an earlier one (perhaps 0730 or 0825).
