| Money Express??? The link re. M05 you probably read was mine, not Cal's. I'm not claiming credit, just responsibility. Do your own due diligence re. M05. Some posters here report liking it. | Thanks for the info. I found the file finally in a sub folder. It WAS named as Money 2002 backup. Now to see if I can do anything with it. And Cal, thanks for the link. I do not like what I read there. Now I am wondering if I want to keep the 2005 rather than returning it and re install the 2002. Besides, I just found out that the 2005 does not have a feature that was int he 2002 which I used and feel I need. "Jim" wrote: - quote - > I installed Money 2005 today okay. | Well, that makes a little bit more sense. Try searching for files by name and use the name of the problem data file displayed in M05. Don't specify .M10 or anything else. Just let it find every file that has that name. One of these should be the .M10 file. It will show, in XP, as a Money 2002 backup file. It's out there, somewhere. It will be in the same folder as the M05 file that you are having problems with. See http://umpmfaq.info/faqdb.php?q=109 for more information. You problems sounds more severe than "Duplicate or incorrect splits have been added to your investment history." Assuming you can find the backup file left over from the file upgrade process (you referred to this as an "automatic downloading"--I'm assuming you mean the data file upgrade process) and it still upgrade poorly, please open a support case directly with Microsoft. They made this mess called M05, they deserve to reap the rewards. It may be the only way to encourage different behavior from them in the future. I avoid giving much help to M05 users since a) I skipped it (see http://umpmfaq.info/Money2005.htm if you are curious why) and do not feel like subsidizing Microsoft for release such a thing. Expand your search. Tell Start-> Search to search all drives and> find the location of the Money 2002 file so it can be reconverted.. If you are cmd/dos oriented, you could do this command: dir \*.m10 /s Another possibility is that the previous version was not actually 2002. So you could make the search be for many versions by searching for "mn9,m10,m11,m12" without the quotes in Start-> Search. |

| Thanks for the comeback. 1. When I said fine, the installation from the CD went okay, however in the automatic downloading of my Money 2002 files in the process , every entry duplicated...two entries where there was one before. 2. Money Support has this paper" 889246", "Issues that you may experience after you convert the data file for your version of Money to Money 2005.". IT says that one of the issues is "Duplicate or incorrect splits have been added to your investment history." The Cause, it says, is "these issues may occur if you converted your datat file from an earlier viersion of Money to Money 2005 before you downloaded and installed the updates for Money 2005 that are available," That is what happened, I guess. It goes on to offer a way to correct the problem. The first thing was to find the location of the Money 2002 file so it can be reconverted.. It says to go to search in the Files and folders, then All or part of the file name where I am to type in the *.m10 for Money 2002. From that I am to make a note of the location and the file name of that file. When I do that *.m10 is not found, so I cannot complete the correction process. I cannot find Money 2002 anywhere since when I installed the 2005. I cannot open the old 2002. That's where I'm at. I need to correct the data installed on the 2005 from my 2002. The 2005 installation did the duplication, I did not. "Dick Watson" wrote: - quote - > Pardon my density here. What problem are you trying to solve? | Pardon my density here. What problem are you trying to solve? You said your file updated from M02 to M05 and the update installed fine? What does "all data duplicated" mean? What location were you trying to find? Your .M10 file? Where was your old Money data file before you upgraded to M05? That's where the .M10 file should be. | I installed Money 2005 today okay. Money 2002 updated to 2005. I downloaded the update. All data duplicated. Article 889246 which supposedly handles this situation does not work. It says to search for *.m10 (for Money 2002) to find the location in Windows results in nothing. Help Please |
