The simple answer is yes, if the bank supports it directly. Don't sign up
with a Passport, just try to set up online banking with your bank. If Money
tells you during the setup that you need a passport, then that bank doesn't
support Money directly.

Sync-with-the-web referred/refers to the sync-with-MSN Money web stuff so
you can see some of your data from any browser, which is what you don't want
to do. Cal notes the ways to use non-Yodlee FI downloads.

I don't have a Passport on my file, and I download.

In addition, many banks offer OFX download via their website. That
is rather easy to use too IMHO, but others think otherwise. I have
not listed those, although I would not rule out a bank that offered
that for my own use.

Even if you mean OFX download without dealing with a web site, the
answer will depend. If your bank is one of these financial
institutions, the answer to that question is probably yes:

If no, the answer could be still be yes if you switched banks.
Switching banks is actually not hard, as long as you don't have a
lot of auto-pay arrangements set up.

Again, many banks offer OFX download via their website. That is
rather easy to use too IMHO. I only listed direct OFX access between
your computer to your bank's/broker's servers.

Default sync w/bank but not MSN server?

Can Money 2005 get electronic updates from my bank accounts without uploading
account information to the MSN site? From my experience and the Money 2005
help files, it appears to be all or nothing: work offline and manually update
your accounts, or work online via Passport AND have your personal data posted
on a public server/website.

It is obvious from browsing this newsgroup that I am not alone in feeling
uncomfortable (to the point of looking for an alternative product) with my
personal financial data being maintained on a public server.

Under a previous post titled "Money 2005 - Who has my money now?" Dick
Watson stated "If you use Passport, you can use sync-with-the-web without
Yodlee." If Dick or anyone else knows how to accomplish this, please help.

Thanks,
blake
