I would think it calls for a transfer if one account comes to have
more money (or less deficit) by the same amount as another comes to
have less money (or more deficit).

There is not a Best Way. Generally, you will create a Money Loan Account
that tracks the liability and an Asset Account to track the asset value. The
Asset Account it tied to the Loan Account, though it doesn't really matter
all that much. The payment will eb Money Loan Payment special category,
which transfers the principal portion to the Loan Account to reduce your
liability and expenses an Interest Expense portion. It can also transfer
money to a Cash Account representing a real world Escrow Account. You might

Money will work better and produce more sane reporting and so forth if you
use Transfer (or variants like Loan Payment and Credit Card Payment)
whenever you are moving money from a cash account you have represented as an
Account in Money to a liability account you have represented as an Account
in Money. You might want to read some or all of the questions and answers at

Default Accounting Stuff

Hi,,,
Ive been using money for about 5 years now and find it a great program ,,,
Although I'm not sure if I prefer the recent 2005 or the 1999 version ,,
anyway i'm sticking with the 2005 version and getting quiete proficient with
it.
However, My accounting skills are not so good and I am wondering if anyone
can help me out with a few probs,,,,

1) What is the proper way to set up my housing/invewstment loan? ,,,
Currently i have a category for my home and all i do is use this category for
my loan payments of the bank statement. I am having trouble figuring out how
i set up an asset account and direct the Loan and any other debits/credits to
it?

2)Is there a rule for what is considered a "Transfer" when banking? ,,, ie;
would a visa payment from a savings account be a transfer?

THanks,,,,
Tim
