I would copy each file from the backup floppies to the same
directory/folder. This will give you an extra backup and will
separate any problems of reading the floppy media from some other
potential problem. This is not the common way, and it is not
usually necessary. But especially if it is my only backup, I would
consider the copy to hard disk step.

The files will be named *d1.mbf, *d2.mbf, *d3.mbf and so on.

In WE, double-click the *d1.mbf file. That should launch Money and
start the restore. When Money prompts for the next diskette, click
OK.

If you are restoring directly from floppy diskette, you can insert
the first floppy and double click the *d1.mbf file. Change
diskettes when prompted.

You will have a chance to change the location or filename for where
the restored data will go. If this is a different computer, it is
especially good to browse to a location. The old location may not
even exist.

I would create a folder on your hard drive and copy the entire CD to
that. Run setup from there.

Still a problem? Sounds like reinstalling XP and the updates could
be worth considering, but make sure you are behind a hardware
firewall or NAT router if you try that until you have applied the XP
SP2 fixes.

Consider having a minimum of other things running when you install.

These do not reference the error message, but could offer some
ideas:

http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;314495

http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;324767

Posting into the microsoft.public.windowsxp.general group may find
somebody with some more XP info. Others have run Money 99 on XP, so
it should work for you.

I am the only one using this PC at home. At one point I get an error "Cannont
run 16-bit Program" - is that the issue and is there a manual work around?
Any help appreciated - five years of data (argh)

You will need to be an administrator to do the install.

Default Money 99 Compatable with Xp Pro

When I try tun run the set-up or auto-run, XP says a 'shell.dll" file is
missing. Impossible - I am running it from a CD rom...
Then I get an error that saysd cannot run in 16 bit mode. I changed the
compatabilityof the setup.exe to run with W98 but that doesn't work.
Are my files now gone since I cannot re-install Money 99?
Apple is starting to be appealing....
