| Deep in the thread for "What are you all going on about??" someone had posted that there is an issue with not being able to delete or merge a duplicate account in Vanguard. The issue comes up when you have multiple accounts at Vanguard under different login names, for example, a spouse's IRA account, your IRA and then a joint account. In this situation, if you download your accounts from your login, you'll get your IRA and your joint accounts. If you also want to get your spouses IRA to download, you'll get her IRA and a duplicate of the joint account that can't be deleted or merged. The solution lies within Vanguard's website. But first, you need to delete the duplicate joint account. To do this, disable online services for your spouse's Vanguard account within Money. Once online services are disabled, you can delete the duplicate joint account without also deleting the IRA that you want to keep. Now, go to the Vanguard website and log in under your spouses account. Click on the link for the joint acount. At the top of the page, there's a link that says "preferred account view". Click on that link and then uncheck any accounts (i.e. all the joint acconts) that you don't want to view or download from the spouses account. Click "save". Now go back to Money and re-enable online services for your spouse's Vanguard account. It should only download the IRA and not the joint account. Hope this helps someone. Jeff |
