Have you tried browsing to the My Documents folder?> *.mny file. If so, I would reboot, and try each of these three lines in a command window. dir %temp% /od dir %tmp% /od del %temp%\*.* The first two show that you have the tmp and temp environment variables defined and they point to a directory/folder. It will list the files oldest to newest. The del is in case there is some temp file that Money wants to use. It is a stab. Good chance it won't help, but it is unlikely to hurt. | Hi Carl. When I try restoring, I browse to a different location and create a new *.mny file. The file creates and it starts restoring and then it claims that the new file I created is read-only, I don't have rights, the drive is write protected. I tried the approach recommended by Glyn (since my last reply) and it gives me no problems. Creates the file and I could create new accounts. The problem is that it does not ask me if I want to run an update. As far as I can tell it is not trying to update. It is still Version 14.0.120.1105. So, if this is a version issue, how do I force an update? "Cal Learner-- MVP" wrote: - quote - > In microsoft.public.money, Sean wrote: > > Purchased new PC and am upgrading to Money 2005 Deluxe. | Glyn, Thanks for the response. I tried what you recommended (Create a new .mny file). I did this from pre- and post- login and it doesn't run the update you described. I am able to restore .qif files to this new .mny file, but the update doesn't run and I still can't open the 2002 .mny file. I'm hoping I don't have to start from scratch... Any other ideas on how to get the 14.0.xxx.1105 version? | When you start Money, try creating a new file first by going to File-> New. Don't add any account and bring up the Home page. Money should start downloading an update. Let it do it until it asks you to restart, which you should do. Wait for the update to install and then restart Money again. Then try to open your old 2002 .MNY file. -- Glyn Simpson, Microsoft MVP - Money http://money.mvps.org Check http://support.microsoft.com/default...d=fh;EN-GB;mny or http://money.mvps.org/faq for UK tips and fixes for MS Money. | Purchased new PC and am upgrading to Money 2005 Deluxe. Old version was 2002 on Windows 2K. Here is what I'm experiencing - I have copied over the backup file to a new folder on the new pc. When I attempt to restore and create a new *.mny file I get: "Money cannot locate 'file path\filename' or cannot open it, possibly because it is a read-only file or you do not have permission to change it or your disk drive is write protected". Now to answer the obvious questions - I have tried this in both My Documents & in "Microsoft Money 2005" folders. The *.mny file exists and is not read-only. Neither is the *.mbf file. This was confirmed in Windows explorer and via command line (attrib). I am an administrator on the pc and have full control over the folders/subfolders/files So, is this an XP issue or a Money issue? I admit that when I view the folder properties (for both) the read-only box is checked, but I have read that this doesn't mean anything. Any ideas which way to go? |
