| What happens when you just try to upgrade like normal, as in putting the CD in and merely upgrading the existing installation? | I'm pleased to report a successful upgrade from Money 2004 Premium to Money 2005 Deluxe (United States). Below is a summary of steps I used that were learned from the experiences of others posted on this forum, together with references to a few helpful Microsoft Knowledge Base documents. BEFORE INSTALLATION OF MONEY 2005 [1a] Completely backup the PC (e.g., using Ghost 9.0 by Symantec). [1b] Backup existing Money data file(s). [2] Remove Money 2004 completely. [2.a] See the Microsoft Knowledge Base articles: [2.a.1] #265111: How to remove Microsoft Money. [2.a.2] #823213: Money: How to Remove Registry Keys for all Versions of Money. [3] In the event of problems, consider the use of the Money Clean tool on the product CD (in the PSS folder). INSTALL MONEY 2005 BEFORE INSTALLATION OF MONEY 2005 UPDATE [4] Create a new Money 2005 data file, and open it. [5] Download the updates. [6] Open the original Money 2004 data file, in order to convert it from the 2004 to the 2005 format. [7] See the Microsoft Knowledge Base article: [7.a] #890393: You cannot open your data file after you reinstall Money 2005. |
