| I believe that they have RTM'd/slipstreamed the patches but it will depend on Retailers clearing stock of the original version before we will see the amended version getting out there. As you say we are going to see this for years - and instead of "are you using M2002/3/4" we are "going to have another round of "tell us exactly which version of M2005 you have". I can see it will get even worse if MS repeat the exercise to fix even more of the desktop side issues! -- Regards Bob Peel, Microsoft MVP - Money For UK tips & fixes see http://support.microsoft.com/default...d=fh;EN-GB;mny. | FWIW, I just retested this by reinstalling from the RTM code. It refused to open my experimental data file which has never done much of anything--and certainly hadn't Yodlee'd--but HAD been updated to the M05.1 file format. | I had this issue yesterday. I reinstalled money5, created a 'new' file, allowed the program to update itself from the internet, and then file, restrored backup to get my usual file to open. I also used settings, program to set the opening page to accounts rather than home, and then removed the investment performance module as suggested in other posts here for those crashing on startup. Was all this necessary? don;t know but I am back in business today. | When I updated my experimental version, it updated my file and left behind a ..M14 file. Whether or not the M14.1 version of the file would work in M14, I do not know. But the point stands. At least some M14.1 files are not backward compatible to M14. Whether that blows up all users or just some only makes it better in degree, not kind. | Dick, as I understand it there was a bug that meant a sub-set of users had to have their file converted to fix the bug. If you had NOT done X - probably go on-line and used Yodlee ;-)) - then although the update went through the motions it didn't actually change your file and so you could input your current file into the original version of M2005. -- Regards Bob Peel, Microsoft MVP - Money For UK tips & fixes see http://support.microsoft.com/default...d=fh;EN-GB;mny. | And the really sad thing is that the chaos this will create--indeed, already is creating judging by the postings--will merely confirm in their minds the importance of moving this whole thing from a client computer hosted application (where the dumb users do things like reload the application from the CD whenever they feel like it and expect their original M05 to open their uplevel M05 data file) to a web service where they control what version you are running, every time you open their web page. Self-fulfilling prophecy. | Be sure to upgrade the M05 on the new version with all available Internet Updates before trying to open your file. Open the sample file, if need be, to get the Internet Update done. | The problem is that Money has since released an update so the CD version is actually "old" now. Here's what you do: 1) Launch Money 2005 and create a new dummy file. 2) Get all the way through the setup stuff. 3) Money should download the update auto-magically. At this point I think you restart Money. 4) Now try to open the your existing Money file and delete the dummy one. | I;ve got Money 2005 Standard installed on an old PC and need to transfer the data over to a new PC. So I've made backups of my Money data files: data.mny and the Money-backup file data.mdf (located in "c:\documents and settings\username\my documents") I've copied the data files over to the new PC but Money 2005 refuses to open the data file saying it couldn't find the file, its read only, or I don't have permission to it. BTW on the new PC I have deleted the dummy data file that I created. I've tried the Restore from Backup feature of MS Money 2005, as well as repairing a copy of my data file but still no good. Whats the procedure for migrating data across to a different PC? |
