The theory is that if the problem is an IE6 setting, you will get
default settings for the new user. If you succeed this way, it
would accomplish the download, and it would point toward the reason
the other did not work. You can delete the new user later, and
your regular IE6 settings will not have been changed.

So I suggest that you go to IE6 and first reset the Security Zones,
do your update, and then tighten your system again. You can take
notes on your setting before resetting the

Tools-> Options-> Security-> LocalIntranet-> DefaultLevel which may be
sufficient.

My IE6 Tools-> InternetOptions-> Security Trusted Sites list include
these:

*.fdl.msn.com *.moneycentral.msn.com login.passport.net
*.microsoft.com

There may be more that you would need. Those sites not listed will
be handled by the Internet zone.

I uncheck the "Require server verification" box.

You can try the DefaultLevel Internet Zone security too, but don't
forget to tighten things back up when done.

Don't use file icons to try to open the earlier-installed version.
Go with File-> Open within Money at first. Then rely on each
version's MRU list to let you go to the right file.

You might try IE6-> -> Connections and specify to never dial a
connection. That way you will not autodial, and can control the
dialing yourself. I am not sure if this addresses your question, but
it is the way I would operate on dialup.

1-7-05Pardon this verbose post but having perused previous posts without
resolution to my MS Money 2005 woes I need to explain the scenario. Being a
dissatisfied past Quicken user I converted to MS Money 2000 Standard Edition
program which was offered preinstalled as well. Have had better results with
it than with Quicken, and liked many of the features which Quicken did not
offer. This is my first MS Money upgrade since previous version. (Recent
TaxCut purchase offered “free�(after the rebate) Ms Money 2005, Standard
Edition so I upgraded).
Installation OK, even with running older version as well. Since I have
accounts affiliated and with the click on a link one assumes the upgrade
converts the old files to new, right? During the installation I chose not to
uninstall previous MS Money versions (MS unrecommended but in the readme text
file two concurrent running versions are supported by MS) so that shouldn’t
be a problem.
Since upgrading Money version the program semi opens/ “hangs�/ and I get a
Money 2005 not responding if I close out running programs. This occurs after
I do a reinstall, with disabling current firewall and Virus Scanner programs
running on system, and closing programs/ deleting some to free up memory on
system. (Currently system resources [at] 65% free but vacillated between 89%,
and 39%).
Sometimes I get as far as an update is available for MS Money 2005 and
tries to locate, then program stops responding. So far I have been unable to
download that update; haven’t been able to locate external to my Money 2005
program either.
I plan to upgrade Windows xp OS soon, but I noticed someone running the new
OS has the same problem so that eliminates Windows 98, SE from being the
culprit. Box lists as a compatible OS for the program anyway. I am running
IE6 w/SP1(have 128 bit encryption), have adjusted the intranet security
settings, cookies are enabled, and my ISP is 32-bit WinSock compliant. I
tried a salvage recover file of the sample.mny file which does open, does go
through the repair but leaves me with a sample file, and eventually responds
not responding too. When I check the former version file conversion which it
completed I get a message file cannot be located, and I must restore from a
backup. I have my MS Money 2000 files backed up on floppy (which does
restore) but I do not want to go back to restoring from floppy all the time.
Any suggestions to:
a)getting new program running,
b)keeping the two versions distinct running separately (I have created two
different paths to them when I installed but when I go to convert the files
one combines with the other creating much confusion of file icons, changing
icons (some new 2005 files now have the 2000 file icon, and vice versa),
Incidentally the *.mn8 for the converted MS Money 2000 files into 2005 files
opens as a sample file so I discarded it.

d)Sometimes I dial up with a dialup connection in My Computer folder if the
ISP icon isn’t working/ responding properly (~50%of the time). Do I need to
disable WinSock if I do that and if so where do I find that? (as per read me
..txt file).
