Instead create one category of "CC payment" or some such. If you define the category as an expense category, expect a warning when you use it to represent the payment within the credit card account -- if you have the warning enabled. Just click Yes for the warning. The category should net at zero in reports across accounts, and you can still customize to ignore the category if you like. 2. Make each transfer to an account (could be "Bank" account) that could be called "In Transit". The account should have a zero balance except during the interval between events. Program that "Monthly Cash Flow" report on the Rows&Columns tab to include transfers to or from accounts that aren't in the report. 3. Don't handle them as transfers. Instead create two categories that you name something like "CC Paying" and "CC Paid" or some such. Customize your reports to ignore these categories when analyzing spending. If those are not to your liking, then no. |

| Cal, I did just try the "Monthly Cash Flow" from the Spending Habits list. I was not able to get the transfers to show on that report either. I can do it by hand but it would be so much easier if I could get money to show the credit card payments. Do you have another suggestion? | Cal, The report that I started with was titled, "Where the Money Goes" from the Spending Habits list of reports. This report allowed me to have sub categories in rows (sorted by amount) and columns of the weeks or months. Other reports do show transfers but they do not allow me to have the rows as subcategories and the columns as periods of time (months or weeks). Is there a way to create a report that has rows as subcategories and columns of time periods (months, weeks or years) and also shows transfers? | PapaFrank, Yes, I agree with you about the tracking the original expense. In this special case I want to track my payments to old unused credit cards that I am paying off. This will help me to see where my money goes and how much I need to make to break even or pull ahead. | John if you are tracking expenses daily, you should be tracking the purchase as an expense and not the credit card payment. That is what I try to teach my children , the expense is when you incur the charge, not when the money is due ! | I am having some trouble getting a report to show my weekly spending habits as well as payments to my credit cards in one report. I am reading a book called, "Your Money or Your Life". The book recommends all expenses are tracked daily. I have a couple of credit cards that I'm paying off over time. I'd like to include the payments to my credit cards in the report with my other expenses. The payments to my credit cards are entered as transfers in money. In customizing the report I've checked the box to "Show Transfers" but they do not show up. How can I get the credit card payments (transfers) to show up in my report with my expenses? Thank you, John |
