As Art notes, Money wants a place to stash the cash for the moment before
you enter your Buy transaction. So, create a cash account associated with
the investment account. Go to the Investment Account Details and there you
should see a place to create the cash account. It's not as well hidden in
M05, IIRC, as in previous versions.

Money is following what happens in most investment accounts. I agree
that with a 401K you do not have a cash account that is listed, but you
really are selling one investment, putting the cash into a cash account
that you do not have access to, and then buying the second investment. I
even use a cash account to accumulate my and my employers shares which
are then used to buy the investments.

Your only choice since money does not allow a barter or trade of
investments is to sell, place the money in the cash account, and then buy.

I tried again, but when I put in the sell, Money is asking for a transfer
account, when what I really want is an investment.

How do I get Money to understand this?

Thanks,

Gary

So, you have on Roth IRA account, you had one Investment and now you want to
exchange that for another? Do a Sell, then a Buy.

Default Exchanging $ between IRA accounts

Hi,

I 'd like to record the exchange of $ from one of my Roth IRA mutual funds
to another
Roth IRA mutual fund, within the same fund family.

Money 2005 dosen't seem to have an exchange option, so I tried to set it up
as a transfer.
But Money thinks I'm moving from an account, not a mutual fund.

Anyone know how I can work this? Both funds are in the same account.

Thanks,

Gary
