Thanks Cal.
The advise you give is very comprehensive and valuable. Much appreciated.
I could save to usb flash drive but thought the zip was the better option as
I tend to use the usb drive as a temporary file transfer media to office pc.
I shall also check out Glyn Simpson's tips.

Thanks again for the very useful information and your time.

Regards,

Dan

I see. Yes, that's the deal, tho you could use the "Hard Disk" one
to the Zip I think. But it would be better to have that to the
actual hard drive and the "floppy" to the Zip for media redundancy.

In Tools-> Options-> Backup
I suggest checking
x Automatically backup to hard disk on exit
x Prompt me before backing up each time*
x Make my file small ...

Then periodically, perhaps once per month or more, copy your
latest backup (named differently from your earlier backups) to a
CDR. With XP, this can be a copy and paste operation. Otherwise
use the burning software that came with your CDR drive.

I strongly suggest use of a USB Flash drive also, in addition to
backing up to your hard drive. They typically act like a big
floppy. For a more automated way to make multiple backups, see
Glyn Simpson's method at http://money.mvps.org/backup.aspx
This technique could also be used to make a periodic copy to a
folder on your Zip drive.

* This has two advantages. You can change the file name
occasionally. I like to pick a name something like money041211.
Then it is easy to change the name to have multiple backups. The
..mbf extension is automatic. The other advantage is that you can
choose "Don't Back Up, or you change your mind about exiting by
simply clicking the X in the upper right of the pop-up box.

Thanks for the reply Cal.
I see the 'browse' button for backup to hard disk but the next one down that
says backup to floppy only lists the external drives with no option to
browse or specify a folder.
Is this the default?

Thanks

Dan

Create the folder. Then you should be able to browse into or specify
that folder.

Default Money 2004 Backup file

Hi

Is there a way to specify a folder in the 'backup' options in Money 2004?
For instance, I would like to backup to my zip drive which is drive R. But
it doesn't give the option to specify a folder in that drive, just saves it
in the root folder.

Thanks

Dan
