Lots of columns are sortable and sizable. I can finally sort Payees by
date and whack those older than X months/years old pretty quickly, and
the portfolio is more powerful, which is good because MSN's portfolio
is total crap now that it won't sync with Money files.

And the UI is better IMHO. Took a bit of getting used to, but now, I
increasingly dislike the UI in Office compared to the UI in Money 2005
and Windows Media Player 10.

Best performance? Definitely Money 97 - last version before moving to
the JET database. ;-)

M2005 is much slower on my machine than 2004 was. Every version has
gotten slower, but 2005 is really slow. I can't use my Money file
after opening it for about 30-45 seconds. It is doing some online
update that you can't turn off then updating the portfolio and who
knows what else. Switching between accounts, bills, portfolio, etc. is
also slower.

That said, 2005 has a good feature set and I prefer it to 2004, but
darn is it slow!

I say 2004 is good. 2005 with the new look is nice but everything is screwed
up from there.
You lose your divided Category & Sub-Category options.
If you use MSN Bill Pay, I am having all kinds of trouble trying to merge
the new account they gave me to the one i had set up. In other words my
checkbook is not updating anymore.
2005 sucks.

Default RE: Best Version, best performance

I upgraded from 2003 to 2005. I like the online automatic updates and Online
Bill Pay convenience, but I find the other features very complex - and
therefore cumbersome and complicated to use. I have advanced
computer/software skills, so it isn't user issues. I think 2005 lacks
"customizing" abilities (its features are all so inter-twined that they don't
let you change much to fit your individual needs) and the budget categories
are so complicated they are just driving me nuts! I've also used Quicken and
other versions of Money in the past, never had problems with budgets or
customizing before.

Good luck on your decision - overall I am happy I am using this, I think the
good outweighs the bad, but I sure do hope improvements are on the horizon!

I switched from 2003 to 2005 and it is not worth it. Wait until next year
and see what MS bring out then.

M05 is unlikely to be any faster and brings lots of its own complications.
See http://umpmfaq.info/Money2005.htm for one user's opinion. M04 was
probably better than M03, but not by very much at all.

See also http://umpmfaq.info/faqdb.php?q=174 for some thoughts on what
happens if M06 (07, 08, 09...) is no better than M05.

Default Best Version, best performance

Anyone have a suggestion as to which is the Best Version of MSMoney? I'm
using V2003. I'm thinking of upgrading to V05 but wonder if I will gain
anything. I've turned off most things in V2003 because of its slow
performance therefore I wonder if V2005 is faster?
