You can't except maybe from somebody doing something illegal or immoral.- quote - > 3) does the version really matter for a corrupt file?
Only as new or newer version tools know what to do with them. Therefore itdoes matter. - quote - > 4) anwhere else I can look for help?
Have you considered opening a support case directly with Microsoft??? |

So if I understand correctly you found a *.mny file that some> data but not installed applications like Money. recovery program read from the formated disk. Salv.exe only works on *.mny files -- not *.mbf. I would search that disk for *.mbf (Money Backup File) files also. I suspect something got overwritten during the format or the actions that followed, munging that *.mny file. It would be worth searching for another file that may not have been damaged. - quote - > I first loaded the 2005 trial and attempted to open/convert the filebut it

Salv.exe will work on versions of money back past Money 2000. I> version the original file was in? Money 2005 would have the newest version of salv.exe when you install that trial. - quote - > I've tried a 3rd party Money Recovery demo, but it also doesn't work. This
I am sure that you have already searched for USB drives, CDRs, and> tool requires that the identical version of Money that created the file be > installed to work. Again, that's a problem for me. > Any suggestions would be much appreciated. floppies you might have made a backup to. |

| Althea, What do you expect this group to do? (I do not mean this sarcastically) 1. you do not know the version of your software 2. you do not have access to your backups I think you are out of luck. | I accidently reformated my hard drive, but was able to recover most of my data but not installed applications like Money. I first loaded the 2005 trial and attempted to open/convert the filebut it failed. I then tried the recovery tool directly and it failed too. Each time, it got past the password prompt 0- accepting the password- but then craps out. I next tried 2004 (from the trial d/l) directly by opening the mny file and by using the salv.exe. Again, it accepts my password on the file indicating it isn't totally corrupt, but then again, I get: "The utility could not repair your file.... (0x800a1462)" Yes, the mny file is writable and I have tried reinstalling as per above. I am out of the country for the next 6 months and cannot get to my floppy backups and have no other copies of the data file so this is all I have to work with. How can I tell what version of Money created the file? Does it matter which version the original file was in? I cannot remember for sure which version I had, but I was able to locate the activation number I bought from MS for 2003. I usually upgrade each year, so I probably lost the 2004 activation number or possibly I did not upgrade. I cannot locate a download of 2003 and as I am on a South Pacific island, it would no doubt take a long time to order one here. I've tried a 3rd party Money Recovery demo, but it also doesn't work. This tool requires that the identical version of Money that created the file be installed to work. Again, that's a problem for me. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. |
