| Only some extraordinary purchases (vehicle is one) qualify for addition to the table values. Otherwise you can use actuals. The tradeoff here is certainly a matter of whether you spend more or less on taxable stuff than the tables were built assuming. | A recent IRS publication (at irs.gov) provides sales tax tables you can use instead of tracking. That way, you only would need to track sales tax on extraordinarily large purchases. | I don't think classification would be the easiest way to get there, though it could be a way. Trying to do it parametrically would be complicated even locally since different locales charge different sales tax rates in many states. Beginning with TY 2004, you can deduct either sales tax or state income tax on your schedule A. | I'm not familiar with any new tax laws reguarding sales tax. Although tax laws give me about as much heartburn as lawyers and insurance agents! But what about using classifications to track categories that are generally sales tax items? Granted, sales tax is different in every state so if you travel a lot it may not work. | The new tax law makes it tempting to track it--especially if you live in a state without an income tax. Tracking personal finances in general is tedious. | Don't you find it tedious to track sales tax? I would only see value in tracking it for a business, but Money will do that automatially there. Graham "Laurie" wrote: - quote - > What is the best/easiest way to track sales tax in Money 2005? |

| Categorize your transactions with splits that include a Taxes:Sales Tax or similar element. This is just one example of something that downloaded data CANNOT do by itself.
