| Currently, the only downloading that I do is from one bank that provides all of my Checking acct, savings acct and VISA CC acct transactions and a few stock quotes. Other than that, I enter everything else by hand. I do nothing with Yodlee. Based on my use, it seems that a M05 upgrade is likely to be rather painless other than that category thingy that I have to fix and turning off some of the ads. If this is not the case, maybe I'm not really gaining anything on M05 and should just go with M04 like the FAQ author did. If I did this, is M04 Dlx available anywhere other than ebay or used? | I would run the Salvage program on the Money 2002 file prior to bringing it over to Money 2005. This will help file integrity. XP will run M02 with no problems. Robert G. | I'm not sure what you mean by "the file integrity". The format has changed, as has the product. In the latter case, radically. M05 does not seem to have significantly more/different problems for people who enter their own data. (There are lots of reasons to dislike M05--see http://umpmfaq.info/Money2005.htm for mine--but data integrity doesn't seem to be one.) For many downloaders who are now vectored through Yodlee, the situation is not so rosy. M02 to M06 not being as seamless as M02 to M05? Before M05 came out, I would have doubted that. Now I would say all bets are off. M06 may be a pure web service for all we know. M02 having problems on XP? I'd say that this is much less likely to be a problem than the alternate case. In fairness, though, the M02 on XP case is something we know about from reality on the ground. The M02 to M06 case is pure speculation at this point. "Robert G. | Has the *.mny file integrity changed anywhere along the line from M02 to M05? It sounds like maybe I should stay on M02, but I'm wondering about one of the following 2 possibilities: 1) the M02 to M06 upgrade might not be as seamless on the *.mny file. 2) running M02 on the XP platform may introduce additional problems since XP wasn't out when M02 was developed. thoughts? | As you will have seen from the posts here it all depends if you need to use on-line banking. Some people have had great trouble using on-line banking. I personally do not - all I go on-line for is to get share prices and currency prices. I go to my Bank's web-site to check my balance but don't download. If that is what you want to do then by all means upgrade to M2005. I would install M2005 on the new PC and copy the *.mny file across using a memory stick or similar. -- Regards Bob Peel, Microsoft MVP - Money For UK tips & fixes see http://support.microsoft.com/default...d=fh;EN-GB;mny. | I'm currently running Money 02 Deluxe on Windows 98. I'm going to be getting a new PC with XP Home or Professional. Which of the following would be recommended from past experience: 1) Install M02 on the new XP computer and continue only using M02? 2) Upgrade to M05 on Windows 98 first so my .mny file is in the new format and then install M05 on the new XP computer with the *.mny file? 3) Install M05 on the new XP computer and upgrade the M02 .mny file at the time of this installation? Does it matter whether I use XP Home or Pro? I currently have a 27MB .mny file with years of information. Thanks, Bob |
