Default Re: assign payee by memo

good point, on the other hand, money, at best, can only do as well as
it is programmed. That is why I was keeping my fingers crossed that
money 2005 has expanded its payee preference mapping to include the
memo field of the transactions from the import because there is a
string within it that i can use to identify a particular payee.

If advanced payee mapping isn't available now, as the product is
continually refined and developed, it would be a good choice for
additional features depending on priority. It would make an interesting
web site list: the money wish list. Does the competition have this
feature???

On the third hand, maybe the real feature is that I have to do by hand,
so i actually conciously look at the transactions rather than blindly
allowing them to automatically pile up. But still, it would be nice to
have that option.

Sure you would like to leverage the import rather than typing. And you can
see how well that will work. Money, at best, can only do as well as the data
that your FI sends.

you present an important side of using money. the main reason for using
money is to create a budget and leverage the transaction data that i
import once about every three months.

since i already have more than a years worth of data for four accounts,
i want to leverage the import rather than type everything in. it would
be nice to filter by the memo field and not just the payee field and
this would relieve me of having to manually update every transaction
with that particular memo field in the transaction details.

Jeff, of course Money 2004 standard allows you to assign what YOU want in the
payee field. To do this you just enter the data manually into your Money 2004
program. You know you do NOT have to download these transations from your bank
or your utility. You can get the information daily via web sites or phone
numbers and make Money look and feel the way YOU want it to. It probably won't
take you any more time than it does now to do it this way. Also, think about
the REASONS you are using Money in the first place. If it is just to download
bank information you can probably get that information on line rather than in a
financial software package. Good luck. Steve

Default assign payee by memo

My gas and electric are from different companies. when i import via the
us bank ofx file, both the gas and electric auto-pay charges from my
checking account appear with the "pay to" category as "ELECTRONIC
WITHDRAWAL" but each has a different value in the memo, for example
"Download from usbank.com. AQUILA".

It would be very nice if I could assign the transactions with the pay
to field containing electronic withdrawal and the memo field containing
aquila to a preferred payee aquila.

In other words how to assign by memo field to prefered payee?

Is there any way to do this in my current version of 2004 standard or
in newer or more advanced versions?

thanks in advance!
-Jeff
