One thing would then be to reinstall Money into a different folder
on that problem computer.

A really neat way to find prior postings in this group is to use the
Google Usenet Groups archive.

http://groups.google.com/advanced_group_search enter words that you
think would be in relevant posts into the "all of the words" box.
Enter microsoft.public.money into the newsgroup box. Consider
selecting Sort By Date.

Anything else to try? One thing I should mention is that I have windows XP
automatic up grades set to "on". Could one of the auto downloads made the
difference?

Hey all -
I've had the same problem, just started this early AM, worked fine last
night. I'm on WinXP with MS 2005. Once starting after login with
passport, system uses 100% CPU and then opens home page and then
immediately closes. Did all of the above solutions except
reinstall...no success....but:
TEMP SOLUTION: The problem only occurs when you start up MSMoney 05
into Home page. Once it loads this, immediately as fast as possible
click on the Portfolio Icon to instead open to this...it will and is
stable, from there go to Options and select Accounts as the opening
page...this resolves the problem, but if you click on Home your program
will immediately shut down. Very strange. Anyhow, I'll be interested
to see what better solution come up (or you can see my permenant fix
below -- which I've now done). I've been MS Money user from the very
first edition, but 05 has just been aweful for me, I though I'd never
do it but instead of going back to 04...I'm gonna switch to quicken.
I'll run both for awhile and see if MS Money gets things back together.
PERMENANT SOLUTION: I'm holding a new Quicken Premier CD in my hand
now, installing tonight.

I did Start-> Run with the above and it succeeded, but I get the same
error on opening Money.

Per the note in the KB article, I would then try
regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\Msxml3a.dll
regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\Msxml3r.dll
regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\Msxmlr.dll

Start-> Run is one way to run. The location will not always be
c:\windows\system32\msxml3.dll; it can be located elsewhere, but
that is a typical location. The OS install provides that I think. So
if you did have that location for msxml3.dll, you would do
Start-> Run and enter "regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\msxml3.dll"
without the quotes. If you do that, you should get a message that it
succeeded or failed. If it fails, then try the search.

Start-> Search can be used to determine the location.

http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;814144
refers to Money 2003, but the same cure may apply.

Default money ecountered a problem and needs to close

I have windows XP and money standard 2002 and never had problems until just
recently money stopped opening and gave me the error message "Microsoft Money
has encountered an error and needs to close. We are sorry for the
inconvenience". The error report reads
AppName: msmoney.exe AppVer: 10.0.0.731 ModName: kernel32.dll ModVer:
5.1.2600.2180 Offset: 0001861d.
I have tried uninstall and reinstalled and no better.
Any help
