| Actually I am using 05. I haven't done this with my own file because I want to keep both the Bill Pay available through my bank as well as use MSN Bill Pay (at least for now), and if I merge, I'll have to cancel the Bill Pay through my bank. -Mark "Dick Watson" <littlegreengecko[at]mind-enufalready-spring.com> wrote in message news:uzYaju55EHA.4072[at]TK2MSFTNGP10.phx.gbl... - quote - > You need to check out M05. > "Mark" <abcd[at]abcd.com> wrote in message > news:41c84c14$1[at]news.microsoft.com... > > I believe that ("lose all older transactions") will not occur. |

| I believe that ("lose all older transactions") will not occur. But, just to be safe, I suggest making sure that you have a Backup of your file before doing the merge. -Mark "Tom G." <t> wrote in message news:e6GPZJ35EHA.128[at]TK2MSFTNGP15.phx.gbl... - quote - > the other problem is that if I merge accounts, I can only merge INTO the > bill pay account (I will lose all older transactions from the bank account). > I have no option of merging into the Bank Account. > Tom > "Mark" <abcd[at]abcd.com> wrote in message > news:41c74d79$1[at]news.microsoft.com... > > If you are wanting to record two separate dates, then yes that will no > > longer be possible, since Money only records one date for a transaction in > > each account. | the other problem is that if I merge accounts, I can only merge INTO the bill pay account (I will lose all older transactions from the bank account). I have no option of merging into the Bank Account. | If you are wanting to record two separate dates, then yes that will no longer be possible, since Money only records one date for a transaction in each account. There is the option in Tools - Settings that allow you to choose whether or not to allow the bank statement download to overwrite the date though. If you decide to do the merge, it doesn't hurt to make a backup (and is always recommended) before making any change you're not certain about. The idea with the merge, is that it will use your "online" connectivity to get the statement from your bank and add the MSN Bill Pay functionality in that same account so that you can do your Bill Payments. There's a possibility of some duplications that may need to be cleaned up and/or the wrong dates (Bill Pay dates vs. statement dates) -mark "Tom G." <t> wrote in message news:eOyEj9r5EHA.2804[at]TK2MSFTNGP15.phx.gbl... - quote - > "Mark" <abcd[at]abcd.com> wrote in message > news:41c714d4$1[at]news.microsoft.com... > > Have you "merged" the two accounts? > > The "Bill Pay" account only knows the transactions that were sent to be > > paid > > (i.e. only the bills). > > The online enabled account will only show "cleared" transactions (i.e. > > those > > bills/deposits which have cleared the bank). > Mark, > This is exactly the problem. > the bill pay account records a payment as per its due date; the online > enabled account records a payment after it has cleared the bank. > Merging the two accounts will screw this up. Mark, This is exactly the problem. the bill pay account records a payment as per its due date; the online enabled account records a payment after it has cleared the bank. Merging the two accounts will screw this up. Or will it? | Have you "merged" the two accounts? The "Bill Pay" account only knows the transactions that were sent to be paid (i.e. only the bills). The online enabled account will only show "cleared" transactions (i.e. those bills/deposits which have cleared the bank). -Mark "Tom G." <t> wrote in message news:OwewT4r5EHA.3820[at]TK2MSFTNGP11.phx.gbl... - quote - > After many trials and tribulations, I am finally at a point in Money 2005 > where I can start to think about the finer points of the program. > I am still confused by the relationship between my MSN Bill Pay account and > my regular banking account. > Once something gets sent from Bill Pay, and the check gets depositied in my > bank account, it shows up in my bank account register. | After many trials and tribulations, I am finally at a point in Money 2005 where I can start to think about the finer points of the program. I am still confused by the relationship between my MSN Bill Pay account and my regular banking account. Once something gets sent from Bill Pay, and the check gets depositied in my bank account, it shows up in my bank account register. However, it also shows up in my Bill Pay account as a negative sum. My question is: How to get these two disparate pieces of information to work together. Perhaps I'm missing something (this is probably the sort of thing that a "manual" would have been helpful for). -- cheers, Tom G |
