Hi Camper

I think you will like Money better, at least I did. But for some it just
won't work and after 2 1/2 years of messing with it I figured it was time to
switch.

Not for sure what you are referring to about registration code. I just
loaded it and did not have to enter a registration code.

Of course there is nothing Intuit could do to surprise me.

I hope Quicken is USA is different from Australia. Here every time you need
to reload Quicken you need a new registration code and have to pay $9.00 for
the code. It was because of this that I am now using money. Also I could
never get quicken to go online at all for updating share prices.

Good luck!

Hi Dick

I never though you eluded to me exaggerating....I was just trying to hi
light how many times I have used the salvage tools.

Although I have no idea as to what I have to agree that it is something in
my "environment" and the environment of many others that is causing the
problem. I realize that there are a lot more people not having these
corruption problems then there are people that are having the problems.
After saying that though, I do believe "too many people are having problems
and although I am usually a supporter of Microsoft products I do feel that
they should be trying to find out what is causing the problem.

While on the Quicken web pages I saw a link to a file converter to convert
Money files to Quicken. I just tried it and after the first quick look, it
looks good and it only took a couple of minutes. Of course tomorrow I will
have more time to mess with it and I will let you know what I find.

For several years now I have been under the impression that Quicken did not
offer a converter and I guess if you look at the software proper
..........then I guess it doesn't.

Quicken has a better look then it did when I left it, but I still like the
look of Money better, but like I said earlier.....10 years with ugly old
quicken I had never heard the words "corruption" before, and it has become a
very familiar phrase since I started using money for 2+ years..........

Again Dick........thanks for all you efforts, suggestions etc since I became
a member of this newsgroup and I will still be reading it hoping one day to
read that Microsoft resolved the "corruption" problem that many of us are
having.

I am planning on setting up a new Money account just for the purpose of MSN
Bill Pay and then manually enter it into Quicken...

By the way have I ever told you that I really hate Intuits way of doing
business.

I've never suggested you were exaggerating the severity of the issues in
your environment (note I said environment not system). Maybe it's a
collision with some other app you use. Maybe it's something exaggerated by
one of your online providers. I can't imagine what or I would have long
since offered it up, but perhaps it's something unique you are doing. Who
knows? As noted previously, you certainly have tried with it. Also as noted
previously, your case seems extreme and untypical. As a long-time reader you
know I'm no shill for Microsoft and will only defend Money in limited and
specific ways.

Again, good luck with Q. I use Money in large part to collect the data.
Leaving it behind at any point is simply unthinkable to me. As always, YMMV.

Hi Dick

Two or three times................I really do not believe that I am
exaggerating when I say I have probably used it over 1,000 times. You are
probably right when saying it must be something unique to my system, but it
has been unique to my "systems".......I have started new on several
different systems and it always become corrupt. After removing the gif's
that Cal talked about I though my problems were resolved as I went for
months with very few problems. The more I am thinking about it, it seems
like the problems started again after I installed the 2005 Trial
version...........maybe I better look for more story*.gifs. Maybe they were
created when using the trial version.

When I go back to Quicken, I am not really interested in moving the data so
I will probably do what I have done many many many times with
Money........Just start over.

I am starting to believe that the problems are somehow connected to my
portfolio as I usually have problems after updating it rather it be manual
entries or downloading from the Web.

You've certainly stuck with it, but as someone who has only used repair two
or three times in more than a decade, it still seems likely to me that other
things are going on in your environment. Good luck with Q. What's your
strategy for moving the data?

Hi Scott

I don't think Money is a better product then Quicken, but in my opinion it
is much more stable. I had used Quicken for approx 10 year before switching
over to Money about 3 years ago and Money has been a nightmare. It may work
for some people, but it will not work as you can tell by reading this
newsgroup for many people. I tried converting my old Quicken file to Money
and that never worked and after a year of frustrations and many many many
restores and repairs I finally started over and created a new Money file and
started over. That worked for about 3 weeks and it became corrupted. About
a year ago I started to give up on Money and the Cal Learner posted about
the Stories1 and 2 gif files and after removing them I thought the problem
was gone but I am still continually repairing, sending the error messages to
Microsoft and restoring old files.

After probably over 1000 repairs, restores and starting over I have decided
to leave Money as well. As much as I love the way it works and as much as I
do not like Intuit's way of doing business, Money has left me no choice but
to switch.

I had tried loading the Money 2005 trial edition (without removing 2004
Deluxe) but after a couple of days it was screwed up as well,

I will probably start a new file and ONLY use it for Bill Pay which is
cheaper than Quicken's Bill Pay, but I have had it with Money.

I appreciate all the advise from the many good users on this site,
especially Dick Watson and Cal Learner.

By the way I am not a novice with computers, and most that have had my
problems would have been out of business with it a couple of years ago. I
kept trying but am now fed up.

My latest problems is when trying to do a Phase 2 repair it goes half way
and then I receive an invalid database error message and the knowledge base
on microsoft has nothing on their site that I can find to tell me what is
wrong with it.

Default Quicken Much Better

Fed up with Money 05 every click of the mouse then have to wait 5-10 secs
before the hourglass changes. If it decides to synchronise with the web it
can be 20 secs wait. Runs so slow its unusable. So many other problems we
all know about not worth mentioning again.

Changed to Quicken and its lightening fast , feels much more like a real
financial tool than a bad web page. Reports so much more flexible. No bugs
yet but even though there are a few I know about I think I'd rather go with
a company who has a suite of financial , accounting and tax software rather
than MS who doesn't. Future has gotta be better with Quicken.

Suggest you all do the same. Think of the time you'd save by not having to
post complaints everyday!

Dick can you migrate over as well I like following your sarcasm and could
continue to do so in the Quicken newsgroup if you do?
