Your software will still do everything with the data you enter. It will even still go get the data from wherever it's offered. It's just that nobody's offering it. They're not allowing companies to save IC> money by using outdated systems that only hurt the customer. I don't see why outdated systems only hurt the customer. If those systems were good at the time they were developed, why would they hurt today? Speaking about the IT in particular, the programming culture one-two-three decades ago was merely incompatible to today's - even without the offshoring. Microsoft Money, by the way, is a perfect example. Compare nearly any feature of Money 95 to Money 2005, and '95 will perform it 100 times faster, with 100 times less requirements to the memory, and without inexplicable inconsistencies in budget, bills, and elsewhere. And without the ads. Vadim |

The software will continue to work, except for downloading quotes, epaying, and for importing statements. Manual price and transaction entry , display and reporting will still operate, as well as QIF export and import of whole accounts. |

| I have to disagree with leaving a feature in for just one user. If this happens, there's no compulsion to switch. I bet you'll see several banks upgrade their systems this year because their customers will be upset that M05 doesn't read the statements. MS is using its size for good for a change. They're forcing market change. They're not allowing companies to save money by using outdated systems that only hurt the customer. Bravo MS! When a particular function is so outdated as to only be used by a small minority of the population, it should be dropped, espcially if it hampers progress to new and better methods. My only beef would be MS's practice of setting "time bombs" in the software that supposedly make it unuseable after a certain date. We SHOULD be allowed to keep legacy software in case we need it. OTOH, every EULA you ever agree says you don't own the software, so you basically have no control over it. Microsoft simply extends you a revokable license to use the product. Since you don't own it, you can't really demand anything (aside from buying the competitor's product) and they have full rights to only "rent" you the software for a certain period of time. | Ignoring my flippant answer ;-) In an ideal world I would agree, but the problem is that import of information isn't as simple as just changing colors on a screen. There's the matching algorithm and subsequent windows , the display of information in the register, the use of OFC in the account lists and then, the clincher, if you don't remove it, someone is going to continually use it as infinitum and it becomes too expensive to support and maintain. Testing would need to occur for this part each time due to code changes and the interdependencies of the parts of the product. There are people out there using dos and stuff from well before that - I can't see MS wanting to carry on supporting them for another 5-10 years and perhaps now, with the Yodlee stuff, MS have decided enough is enough. Over here in the UK, we have less banks which provide statements so it's not really a problem for us, but you at least have a lot more competition in the banking sector which encourages banks to use more up to date stuff and so customers asking for banks for things like that has more chance of working (probably not a lot, but you can vote with your feet more than we can). And, of course, there is no need to upgrade to 2005 at this time, unless your online services have run out on a previous version. Money unfortunately has gone through a lot more iterations than Word has, and because it's a consumer product, i'd reckon that they are more likely to remove stuff because the business community is a lot louder than us. -- Glyn Simpson, Microsoft MVP - Money http://money.mvps.org Check http://support.microsoft.com/default...d=fh;EN-GB;mny for UK tips and fixes for MS Money. | It won't come back. It was invented by MS for money 97, then supplemented the following year by OFX which was designed in conjunction with Intuit. MS continued to have it in Money until last year's version. You will need to get your bank to change to the standard OFX instead which has been available for many many years. -- Glyn Simpson, Microsoft MVP - Money http://money.mvps.org Check http://support.microsoft.com/default...d=fh;EN-GB;mny for UK tips and fixes for MS Money. | This was a deliberate act by MS. Support for OFC was removed from M05. It supports QIF & OFX only. OFC was created in 1997 by Microsoft, then replaced in 1998 by OFX which is like an enhanced version of OFC and was also supported by Intuit and other companies. As OFC was 7 years old, had several limitations and only used by a few banks that tended to support OFX anyway, it was dropped in order that MS could simplify things. So I think it very unlikely that it will be added back in, but then pigs do fly! -- Regards Bob Peel, Microsoft MVP - Money For UK tips & fixes see http://support.microsoft.com/default...d=fh;EN-GB;mny. | Actually, as a proportion of the complaints about M05, OFC hasn't been a heavy hitter.
