| What worked for me was turning off the backup feature in Money 2005. Then when I looked on the processes tab in task manager msmoney.exe was not listed any longer. I hope this helps some folks. | I had this problem shortly after installing. My problem was a corrupt Money file. You might want to try file repair. | Money continues to run even when the dial-up is terminated. It also continues to run even when I'm not connected. There's been discussion here that this might be related to incomplete product updates. In my case, product updates don't have to be ongoing. I can even be logged-in in off-line mode and Money won't terminate upon closing. | I've been having the identical problem since upgrading to Money 2005 Premium from Money 2004 Deluxe. In my case, it happens all the time. I close Money, it backs up my Money file and appears to close. During the same session I then attempt to reopen Money and it's already running (active in Task Manager as a Process, not an Application). I close it via Task Manager and can then restart Money. I'm running Money version 14.0.125.1105 on Windows XP with SP 2 over a 56k dial-up connection. I've been using Money since Money '97 and my Money file is 63mb in size with transactions dating back to mid-1997. I reported it to tech support early on (at least a couple of months ago) and they offered no resolution. -zender "Terry Carter" <terryicarter[at]bigpond.com> wrote in message news:41ba58d1$0$31704$61c65585[at]un-2park-reader-01.sydney.pipenetworks.com.au... - quote - > Sounds like exactly my scenario - you can manually terminate msmoney.exe > from task manager - but thats not that elegant :-) > Not sure it lingers around after closing the file (and I mean for hours as > opposed to seconds) > Thanks for all the suggestions everyone - good to see an active community > out there. > I've been using Money since 1996 and have a 30mb file (which I dont seem > to have any problems with it size) - its great for analysing spending > trends with such a long history! |

| What I used to do when Money 2004 updates wouldn't complete was temporarily disable the Internet connection by right-clicking on the connection and selecting Disable. Money detected the loss of the connection and terminated the updates. If Money 2005 is not closing because it's stuck in an update, that might solve the problem. At the very least, it's worth some experimentation. Control Panel > Network Connections > [your Internet connection] Enable to re-enable the Internet connection. After monitoring this discussion for the past 2 days, I thought I'd weigh in with my two cents worth. -- Brent "Terry Carter" <terryicarter[at]bigpond.com> wrote in message news:41b88573$0$3596$61c65585[at]un-2park-reader-02.sydney.pipenetworks.com.au... - quote - > I have Works Suite 2005 and run Money 2005 s part of it. | Very odd. Please post back if you get a solution! Personally I hate the fact that every time I open Money it goes on-line to get share prices. My share holding is a long term investment so a weekly update is fine for my purposes an I want to choose when to do it. Also I don't want my Money file bloated by unnecessary price updates - ditto currency updates. -- Regards Bob Peel, Microsoft MVP - Money For UK tips & fixes see http://support.microsoft.com/default...d=fh;EN-GB;mny. | Sounds like exactly my scenario - you can manually terminate msmoney.exe from task manager - but thats not that elegant :-) Not sure it lingers around after closing the file (and I mean for hours as opposed to seconds) Thanks for all the suggestions everyone - good to see an active community out there. I've been using Money since 1996 and have a 30mb file (which I dont seem to have any problems with it size) - its great for analysing spending trends with such a long history! |

| I have the same problem, running Money 2005 Premium on XP Pro SP2. I have this problem about once a week. I get home, unlock session (I hardly ever log out or shut down), click the Money icon and get a "already running error". This sucks... Open task manager, terminate msmoney.exe process, who knows what gets corrupted when terminating my financial record keeping application... Now I can start Money. M$, please fix. | I have waited over night and found that Money is still running the next day when I try to restart it. This occurs much less frequently with the ..1105 version, but it still will occur. I have reported it to Microsoft help but they have not come up with a fix. I have finally downloaded a task terminator program that I has a dox command line and I have a shortcut on my desktop that will delete money when it occurs. It appears to be related to accounts that use passport sign on, and store the account on line at moneycentral. If the number of accounts gets large and money central is slow, the result appears a time out that hangs money. Art Kent Riesen wrote: - quote - > Try going to get a cup of coffee. | I have noted that if I close M2005 and say "bother" and try and reload M2005 I get this error. It seems there is some online process - updating currencies(?) - that needs to complete. Are you by any chance using dial up to connect to the Internet? If so perhaps you are dropping the line before Money completes it's on-line tasks. Like you I only go online for share price updates (and unwillingly) for currency updates. Perhaps leaving things alone for a bit longer before restarting Money might help. -- Regards Bob Peel, Microsoft MVP - Money For UK tips & fixes see http://support.microsoft.com/default...d=fh;EN-GB;mny. Start the Windows Task Manager. Go to the Processes tab and sort by Image Name. Capture that screen with Alt+PrintScreen. Open Paint. Paste the image of the Windows Task Manager. Open Money. Do some updates. Close Money. Place the actual Windows Task Manager window next to the image in Paint. Do the Image Names match, except for mspaint.exe in the current window? |
