OK. Here is the way you can find out.> CGs on Dec 3 > I am reading this directly from my Fidelity statement. Regardless Money > translated this into "Dividends". For Money 2005 OFX access, it is possible to turn on logging of incoming OFX files as *RS.txt. The way to turn on that logging is to create a registry key. That can be made by creating and running a 4-line file called ProvLog5.reg. Then download. =====begin:ProvLog5.reg=============== REGEDIT4 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Money\14.0\On line] "FLogProviderData"=dword:00000001 =====end:ProvLog5.reg=============== NoLog5.reg works similarly, but turns off the logging. =====begin:NoLog5.reg=============== REGEDIT4 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Money\14.0\On line] "FLogProviderData"=dword:00000000 =====end:NoLog5.reg=============== In the case of Fidelity downloads, they are OFX 2.x format and of the form "FidelityInvestments nnnnnnnn RS.txt" where nnnnnnnn represents a number. A file can easily be viewed by renaming it to Fid1.xml (or any *.xml name) and viewing the file with IE6. If you download now, tho, it may not include the past data. So restore a Money backup file that predates the download where you first had that "interest" appear. You can restore to a different filename if you want to preserve your current Money file. When you view the file, near the bottom will be some security info for each fund: .... <MFINFO<SECINFO<SECID<UNIQUEID> nnnnnnnnn</UNIQUEID<UNIQUEIDTYPE> CUSIP</UNIQUEIDTYPE</SECID<SECNAME> FIDELITY CASH RESERVES</SECNAME<TICKER> FIGRX</TICKER<SECNAME> FIDELITY INTERNATIONAL DISCOVERY</SECNAME> " .... Note the nnnnnnnnn numbers for the various funds you want to check. These are the CUSIP numbers. They are the key to what security each transaction is about. Look for <INCOMETYPE> types of CGLONG (capital gains-long term), CGSHORT (capital gains-short term), DIV (dividend), INTEREST, MISC referenced in the transactions to see how Fidelity reported the data into the OFX file. - quote - > It looks like a bug in the information exchange between Fidelity and Money.
Let us know what you find.If you restored to a different Money file and want to return to the original, the MRU list at the bottom of the File menu is the easy way to switch files. |

Those capital gains distributions have been rare the last few years.> account Microsoft money shows this in the account register and in the > Portfolio as dividend. :-( No offense, but are you sure that the distribution is not dividends or interest? Looking at http://personal.fidelity.com/product...ibutions.shtml I see the data in that chart for most funds has not yet been updated for the year. However I know we are approaching the time of the year when CG distributions are typically made. - quote - > I do not have this problem with Etrade for example.

Depending upon when you download, it is not uncommon for the transactions to become available for download at a different time than the balances are adjusted. I wish there was a way to make the default be "No, do not update my account". If you let "Yes, update my positions ...." ride, I would delete/void the automatically generated transactions. By voiding, that could be useful to note the number of shares that you need to account for. - quote - > However that leads to
You could track this down, but unless you are more motivated than> confusion in the Portfolio manager which then does not show the cost basis > correctly any more. > What is wrong and how can I corect that? Is the problem perhaps with > Fidelity? most, you would be better to just make the fix. The fix is to create a Reinvest*TermCG or both a *-TermCapGainsDist and a Buy transaction. You might be able to turn the Interest transaction into the L-TermCapGainsDist and the automatically generated AddShares into the Buy without having to enter any numbers. If you do want to track this down as an item of interest (no pun intended), let us know. |

| Hello, When I receive a capital gains distribution on a mututal fund on my fidelity account Microsoft money shows this in the account register and in the Portfolio as dividend. I do not have this problem with Etrade for example. Also it seems that Dividends from Fidelity sometimes come in later than the reinvestment-purchase and this causes Moeny to "add shares" which after the Dividend is registered leads to a "remove" shares so the total number of shares is equal with the number on the account. However that leads to confusion in the Portfolio manager which then does not show the cost basis correctly any more. What is wrong and how can I corect that? Is the problem perhaps with Fidelity? Thank you! - Kitechick |
