| Hi Dick I guess it depends on how you read it, and I obviously interpret it different than you do. I am sure you know more about it than I do, but I do know that it works differently in Quicken and Quickbooks. Bottom line is what ever the way it is meant to work, it is still not working because the other user and myself not only had a copy of the original file copied and named as 1997Archive.mny with nothing removed, the new file has nothing removed neither. When you archive, you have two exact copies of the same file with nothing removed from neither. Sounds to me like the "copy" command does the same thing. Not going to worry about it since I really don't use the archive feature. | By "will be archived" Money means removed from the main file, not removed from the archive file. I agree it's goofy and non-sensical. Try your own test case. | The Archived file should be an exact copy of the file prior to archiving. This is the way archiving has worked in Money since the first version I used (which was Money 3). Here is the definition of Archive, also from the Money Help file: To copy your current file into a storage file and remove older transactions from the current file to keep your current file a manageable size. | Hi Dick I usually agree with you, but not on this occasion. I "used" to archive files in Quicken so I thought I had a pretty good understanding of how it was "suppose" to work. Since this is Money and not Quicken, I figured I should check before I responded and following (from the help section) of Money and under step #2 - second paragraph it notes that only the files prior to the date selected for the archive will be archived. 1.. On the File menu, click Archive . 2.. In the date box, enter an archive date for your transactions, and then click OK . Transactions prior to, but not including, this date will be archived. 3.. In the File name box, enter a name for the file, and then click OK . 4.. Select the accounts you want to archive, and then click OK . And more on the subject, this is also from the help section of Money Backing up When you back up your file, you simply make a copy of everything in your working Money file. Backing up insures that you don't lose any data in the event that your main Money file is damaged. Money backs up to your hard drive by default whenever you close Money. It's a good idea to back up regularly to a floppy disk as well in case something happens to your computer. Archiving When you archive, Money removes old transactions from your file to keep it a manageable size. For example, at the beginning of the year, you can archive all of the transactions of the year before the previous year. When you archive, you can specify a date range for archived data and accounts you want to change. By the way I think I finally eliminated my corruption problems.................I ended up exporting all the accounts and "finally" imported them with success and haven't had many problems since. What I did find though was if I attempted to transfer money from my mortgage to an escrow account the file would then become corrupted. I remember having to do a manual typing of transfer in order to link it with the "Escrow" account as it would never show up in the drop down box. Every time I try to transfer to the escrow account by typing the Transfer:Escrow XXX account, it then becomes corrupted. | Sjcohen730 No ......it is not suppose to duplicate the original file. The archived file should not have anything after the date of archive and the file that is remaining should have "most" transactions prior to that date removed. It does not remove everything but it should remove most. If what you are saying was correct then why achieve? Why not just copy the file and call it an achieve. | I agree that it can be really hard to tell when this question comes up, I **think** the OP was recognizing that the "archive" file is a complete duplicate and was complaining that the "archived original" file was also not showing any transactions removed. But I certainly also agree with your advice: Archiving: any amount of pain, is not worth it for no gain. | It should remove "most" transactions prior to the archive date, but mine doe not remove anything. It just duplicates the file (copies) as it was before the archive. Of course to be honest, I haven't tried it since correcting my other problem. I have read what it was suppose to do and it didn't do what it was suppose to Bob "SJCOHEN730" <sjcohen730[at]aol.com> wrote in message news:20030809213733.21660.00001294[at]mb-m07.aol.com... - quote - > > Subject: Re: Archiving Money Files > > From: "Arge" bigbc37(nospam)[at]hotmail.com > > Date: 8/9/03 9:14 PM Eastern Daylight Time > > Message-id: <ui6#TztXDHA.1736[at]TK2MSFTNGP10.phx.gbl> > > Hi Major > > > I can't help you with your problem, but I just wanted to tell you that I > > have the same problem using 2003 Deluxe. > > > Bob > > "Major Jones" <major9000[at]comcast.net> wrote in message > > news:063101c35e81$50fff650$a501280a[at]phx.gbl... > > > I have Money Standard 2000 and whenever I try and archive > > > my Money files from 2002 Money archives the files but it > > > wont remove them from the current file that I am using. > > > How can I archive ther files from 2002 and remove them > > > from my current program as well? > > > > > > > > > You need to understand exactly what "archive" does in Money.
