Default Re: Credit card payments

You need the change the credit cart to a 'budget' account on the details
page.

1. If you don't, the individual transactions are ignored and the payments
and credits appear in the transfer in/out category as you describe.

2. If you do, the individual transactions are included as expense/income (or
expense reductions if credits are categorized as negative expenses) and the
credit card payment transactions are ignored.

Default Re: Credit card payments

I don't know exactly how you have things setup nor how you are entering
transactions, but in general, spending on a credit card is accounted for as
categorized transactions in the credit card register. Paying the credit card
is not spending, it's just a Transfer (Credit Card Payment is just a name to
confuse that it's really a Transfer.) This Transfer reduces both the balance
in a cash account (say "Checking") and a liability account (say "Discover").
Interest expenses on the credit card are entered as transactions in the
credit card account register. For budget purposes, you want Money to budget
the spending and the interest expense and not worry the transfers from cash
to the liability. Transfers In or Transfers Out in the budget indicate that
one or the other account is not set to be included in the Budget Planner in
its Account Details (or Settings in M05). In general you want credit card
accounts you continue to use in the budget.

I don't understand what you mean when you say "transfers are shown as both a
transfer in (income) and a transfer out (expense) from budget categories".
See above re. settings in Account Details. BTW.

Default Credit card payments

When making a credit card payment I understand that the only expense noted is
with the individual credit card expense line item. The transfer of funds to
the checking account to pay the bill and the actual check to pay the credit
card balance are noted as Special transactions and are not considered income
or expense. Is this correct? On the reports the transfers are shown as both
a transfer in (income) and a transfer out (expense) from budget categories.
Is this correct; if so, is there any way to not show these on the budget
reports as they are purely internal transfers?
