| Thanks for the idea. I also downloaded the program and looked at it. Looks promising, is quick, but has some flaws. I am interested in your evaluation outcome. We may use this Newsgroups as it's their own fault that we are looking for an alternative. I was quite happy last year starting to use Money, but was disappointed at this years signals on the Newsgroups, so I decided not to upgrade, but it's very hard to find a suitable alternative. Maybe there are more ideas out there (except Quicken, who also does not get so many positive reports) "das" <das[at]discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:8842C2A3-D052-4B67-A8DB-7C19A7460141[at]microsoft.com... - quote - > I too wonder who Microsoft is targeting as a user base. | I too wonder who Microsoft is targeting as a user base. My biggest gripe is with the mismanagement of screen real-estate. but that is a different discussion. Have you seen AceMoney. I just started looking at it as an alternative since in the last two releases, Microsoft is drifting away my expectations for finance software. My initial observations is that it has a simple plain UI compared to the fancy UI features that Money seems to be spending money on. But it does have much of the functionality that I expect of finance software (Account Register/QIF downloads/Budget/Portfolio/Bill Schedule) . However, I will have to use it for a while before I decide to switch. "pony boy" wrote: - quote - > Who exactly does Microsoft think it's biggest audience is with MS Money? | Some of us would argue, in terms of extensibility and capability, that they haven't made it nearly complex enough. That's a measure of their problem. Lots of people can't deal with it despite the continued dumbing-down, others want a serious tool. | Who exactly does Microsoft think it's biggest audience is with MS Money? If it is the casual user with some desire for light online banking - then the software fails because of it's over-complexity. If it is the borderline money management geek like myself who wants detailed accouting of their personal accounts and the ability to manage them all online, then it fails because all those over-complex features just don't work worth a damn. Riddle me this - has anybody ever actually used the various portfolio analysis tools and gotten what they consider to be useful data/results? And the ads - my God, the ads! Does MS really think it's making money selling all these links considering how badly it turns off customers? The only thing MS has going for it with this crap software is that there is only one competitor and it isn't any better. It is mind-boggling how complicated they have made this whole product. They should consider starting from scratch. |
